Going on mil leave before completing probation?

Take it easy!! What I mean by saying "The job you interviewed for" is that you applied for a job at XYZ airline, knowing what the first year pay is. If you didnt want the job, with the first year pay, then you shouldn't even apply there. I think you need to apply the rule of 3's here dude....
And in my opinion the job he/she interviewed/applied for was one that would let them take time off based on federal law. If the employer doesn't want employees taking military leave in accordance with federal law then they should tell the folks that are interviewing with XYZ airline that this is their policy.

I didn't hide the fact the I am ANG. If they have an issue with it we can discuss it with mgmt, me and the ESGR. Going active is far from a vacation! Huron, apparently your guard job is so easy you feel guilty mil dropping. For the rest of us busting our ass, it is what it is.

First off I'm not in the guard I’m on active duty in the Navy where I’m positive I along with all of my other squadron mates ( to include Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps) bust our @ss's every day. Second, you had a choice of which guard unit you affiliated into. I’m affiliating into a unit (my current active duty squadron) where I can fly my 5 or 6 days a month without having to drop MIL leave.
The rest drop a little here or there but it's usually because the unit has something for them to do.
You might know one or two guys who are abusing the system and think that we all are and that's simply not the case.

Huron, I think you're manufacturing a problem that doesn't exist. I would guess that I know well over 100 pilots who are reservists, and I know of only one or two who I think are gaming the system.

You seemed to get really got defensive about this Mil Leave thing. EVERYONE knows of someone who abuses the system. That is an unfortunate fact of life. I am really suprised what I have seen some people do myself. That is what gives Mil guys a bad name at some airlines. I have even heard of some people getting hired and then get activated for the next 4-5 years so they can finish their 20...Not something I would do, but it happens. I dont believe an potential employer would hire someone that stated once they got the job they were not gonna be there for the next XX years. To be honest it should not even come up in an interview. I think people who do this are the EXCEPTION and not the rule. That is why GarryOwen asked the qustion in the first place, to get other peoples opinion....IMHO

These are the people I'm referring to on this post as well as those who pull similar stunts. I agree with you 100% that these people give the rest of us a bad name. Maybe I wasn’t clear on that in my previous posts. If duty calls then duty calls.

exactly, I know its a baited question, We are trying to impune a legal viable option that this country needs and legitmize a companies shady view on military leave.
The only gaming the system I ever saw was when a guy told the company he was needed in the reserves and told the reserves he was needed at the company.

Sometimes the "abuse" of Mil leave is in the eye of the beholder. I know guys who take mil leave because the commute to the airline and their military gig. If they ever want any home time the take mil leave to complete there mil duty and still have days at home.
There are times I have taken mil leave even though I do not commute because I have lots of thinkgs going on at home and need the days off I get from the airline for these events. So I take 2 or 3 days from the airline to go get the mil job done.
But yes there are guys that play the mil leave game and sometimes do abuse it, but it is not a big majority.
