Okay, so we are in the same boat. I think I saw you. Where you there on the 9th in the morning, but couldn't fly cause the planes were broke so you got delayed. Was that you? They gave me either Jacksonville or Miami. I would prefer Jacksonville. I currently work for the DoD. I'm with you, I would drop everything in a heartbeat to work for the CBP. I wish you luck brother.
Pm me when or if ya hear anything!!!

yes you can... they dont like it compared to someone who isnt in the guard or reserve... but I know of atleast one guy (which means many more) who do it... considering most of the pilots are prior mil

Hi guys..new to the forum sorta....
SO for sure, no reference call means you didn't make the cut right? I interviewed on the 24th of June, spoke with Katy a week or so ago and she said we would get word first/second week of August. She made no mention of the reference check thing....I'm in the didn't have references called boat.
I ask because it seems mixed. Example: I have a buddy hired in SDCA that didn't have his references checked for almost a month...and most everyone in his hiring group had references called the same day of the interview like has been posted. He was called for an offer a month ish later after that, no reference calls until a month after his interview.
Thoughts? I'm going to go vommit from the thought of blowing the interview, and I hate thinking that it all went well too.

ERJDude,
That is too funny. Yeah, after the ride my plane wouldn't shut off even after the mixture was pulled. Hey, that is one way to eliminate the competition- break the #$%# airplanes. The guy was ****ed when he learned everything was broke and got his interview delayed, which I don't blame him. Interviews are always difficult and dragging it out makes it worse. I will man, if I hear anything I'll drop you a line. I did the Regional thing for a while too. You can have it. I really hope we both get it.
USMCFLYR,
ERJdude pretty much summed it up. It is your basic Commercial Check ride and oral. If you buy a copy of the Commercial/Instrument PTS and read up on Part 61, 91 and the AIM. Each ride differs due to who your IP is. When I prepared for the interview I read part 61 and 91 front to cover and made flash cards on all the VFR airspace, light gun signals, speeds, airpspace dimentions, etc... It may seem like overkill, but I was overly prepared since you have a month to study. Also, the topic of conversation covers so much. I have been through enough Part 121 and 135 checkrides to know anything is game. But I would recommend to concentrate on Part 91 (ie: airspace, VFR cloud cleareances, and IFR rules) would be a key. Also read up on all the airport signs in the AIM.
GRDHound,
Go on the CBP website, it has alot of questions and answers that you may find helpful. What I can say is that they guy I interviewed with is an A.F. Reserve Capt. on C-130's, so the answer to your question I believe is Yes.
I hope this helps.

Thanks man...I just wish they would be able to tell you if you crashed and burned or not....I first heard that you don't make it to the end and not know...as in you don't go to the next phase if you messed something up. Leaving there after the whole thing usually meant that you made it okay.
....but then I'm obviously speaking from bad gouge based on what I've read.
Oh well...we'll see what August holds.
Cheers.

And that makes sense. Like you, this my first time with CBP interview process, so I'm in the dark as well. It is very stressful. Matter of fact next week I was supposed to close on a new house. Based upon everything, I'm going to give it up and see how all this plays out. My wife and I agree not to be stuck in a mortgage if we are moving to Florida soon. Big d*mn gamble, but hopefully worth it. Like you and everyone else, I hate waiting. Good thing this website is here so we all can suffer together.
