Nothing against Marines at all, gouge is standard in all the services but looked at much different in CBP. For example, our class advisors at Glynco really did not want us to attend the graduation party of the class before, even though several people had military buds in the class. They were worried about gouge, both academic and practical exercises. If they thought T6 had or was looking for gouge, he may have put himself on the wrong foot to start out. When I interviewed, the DAO out there specifically instructed us not to discuss the days events with the other applicants.

Not saying it isn't out there, cause it is. In T6's case, his username may have given them reasonable suspicion that he had gouge, and at that point he may have put himself on thin ice. I have no way of confirming that, but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

Once again, I'm trying to disparage anyone, or start any smack. Just theorizing based on my own experience. Take it for what it's worth - not much. Like I said at the very beginning of my post, don't take it the wrong way.

Exactly. If they are looking for military aviators, which usually have the type of experience and requirements they are wanting for the job, they are going to have expect that people who have "lived and died by the gouge" aren't going to change unless you tell them to otherwise (like your DAO/instructors telling you not to discuss the days events or t6marine signing a confid. clause).

I'm sure that you aren't trying to start any smack. That hasn't been your MO in the past, but I didn't/don't understand from your post where you thought that t6marine might have sold his integrity to the highest bidder.

At my present job, they mentioned during my interview that they knew that I had asked questions about them here on APC. I told them that I absolutely had. I was trying to learn as much about the company as I could. They do their homework on me; I do my homework on them. Unless t6marine was breaking some rule that he already knew about, it would be a strange thing to be upset at a candidate for employment who asked questions about the interview process or seek information to better prepare him (or at least TRY).

Completely agree with all your posts.... Being a solid Marine Officer I would not nor have I ever sold my integrity for any reason. Not our MO as Marines and would not sell it out now, just for a job. No one mentioned anything about the any boards or forums during the interview process. It was all straight forward and direct. Had they asked I would have said yes I was looking around for pointers / information on the process...... There will always be next spring....

Are the positions only being announced on USAJOBS? I don't see anything on there right now, but I may be searching incorrectly.

The CBP site has them as well, but it is just a link to USAJOBS. I'm not really in the loop for if and when they are going to publish announcements.

No announcement out right now and the last round it was only announced on USAJOBS under AIA. Start looking in the early part of next year for something to come out from what I heard. CBP site did not have anything on this last round in early July.

Incorrect.

They hire you as a pilot directly, go the the PILOT jobs via US Customs and Border Patrol. They do not hire you as an agent first, if you read the requirements you have to be an active pilot not an agent first. It is very military, they typically hire military. Training is in Oklahoma initially. They have helicopter and fixed wing positions. They do list on USAjobs, but like any true govt. job, word of mouth and knowing someone helps without the whole lets wait till a job posts...

We have a pilot training program. It is primarially BP guys who want to become AIAs. There is one at my Branch. Training is not in Oklahoma initially; you interview there. Most training is done by vendor at various locations. There is a course that we go through there, but it is a come as you can get it program. As for who you know, that may have been a legacy thing, but isn't the current way of doing business. You may get more relevent/recent gouge, but all is fair and above board. Minniapolis and OKC are as professional as you can get.

Good luck to all!!
