Not a lot of good news around unfortunately. Latest scoop I got from someone on the inside is that CBP is One: having budget problems, and Two: they hired too many people. Thus there has been a freeze on all/most of the files in process now. I'll copy and paste two quotes from this CBP guy. The first has to do with the UAV positions which I was offered.
"Yup. The UAV has been a roach motel......you check in, but you never check out. And there have been more than a number of "good deals" offered that didn't pan out for those there."
"We hired too many people, and now with budget issues we're not even replacing some of the people leaving....spots that will go unfilled as they try to shrink again. But hey, were got 4 brand new M model 60s that don't do much, as well as more and more Preds that cost far more than anything they catch."
That's the fed. government/homeland security at work for ya.

True I'm sure it will open up in the future or trickle in a few hires now and again (I'm suspecting rotary wing guys), however this September is the end of the road for me since I'll be turning 40 which is the cut off age unless you're grandfathered in from the military. (law suit CBP lost). Disturbing thought though that when I initially applied on line I was 37. CBP hiring process is an unyielding saga with an uncertain conclusion

I stand corrected on the age limitation. My information was given to me by a former CBP officer not Minneapolis Hiring Center. His understanding was that the "tentative" offer did not count, only the "official" offer after the completion of the BI. In other words must be no more than 40 before the Official offer of employment which could differ from the tentative offer. Thank you for pointing out the error.

That was my original understanding as well however, from a personal stand point weather one needs to EOD before his 40th or not is somewhat irrelevant now. I wrote off this CBP gig months ago. Especially after I found out from inside sources that the UAV program is a "check-in-but-never-check-out roach motel." I'm not holding my breath for any calls.
The sad part in all this is the hiring process itself. If someone were to tell me, back in Summer of 2008 when I originally applied, that this is the saga one would need to endure to be hired by one the largest branches of Homeland Security of the United States Federal government, arguably the most influential and monetarily affluent government in the world, I would have blew it off as a typical politically motivated Anti-American sentiment.

CBP in Manassas VA?
I heard through the grapevine that CBP may be opening up an air branch in Manassas VA in the next 1-2 years; has anyone else heard this, or have any additional information regarding this? Thanks!
