US Customs & Border Patrol Pilots

I was another one that got that email. I was asked for my DD214 in addition to the DL. I sent them a DD214 and was told that my military time would not be counted towards veterans preference and that they needed more paperwork. I emailed them copies of my medals, including my Iraqi Campaign Medal and Air medals. So I was told to send them additional paperwork if I hadn't reported for duty by then, or just to wait and give it to my branch once I did report for duty. What's ridiculous is that the BI investigator physically went to my unit and has all the paperwork that shows I'm a veteran.
I can only hope its not this disorganized once we're on the inside.

I'm not retired, I'm a reservist, and have been since the beginning. They want something that shows a separation date with a discharge such as honorable or general. I don't have a separation date. When I applied for the job way back when, I sent in a copy of my iraqi campaign medal along with some other stuff, and that got me the 5 pts veterans preference. Not real sure why they aren't taking that now.

NO - unfortunately I do not believe you are reading the site wrong. Even if you take the survery to determine eligibility and answer all the questiosn that you would as a retired O-4 or above - the answer comes out that you ARE NOT eligible
I don't understand how someone could serve one tour and be eligible and someone who serves 20 years is not eligible.
I'd like to hear the reasoning from Sen Hatch or that President of the American Foreign Legion (from the article concerning the increase in the age limitation).

Nestor,
I got a 99 with the 5-point vet's bump. On the application website, I specifically requested locations in the Florida area. I know many folks on this site talk about their locations changing a few times during the hiring process, but I don't know what it does for initial selection. It's possible that I may have "pigeon holed" myself by only selecting a specific geographic area...who knows. Best of luck.

If you want current info on CBP check out aptap.org seems like that site has alot of CBP types. Alot (not sure if all) interviews and subsequently offers from the latest round of hiring went out last week! I was fortunate and got the good word...

Mustangame,
Location selecting is "Mox Nix". Once you get the interview, and they select you, and you get through the BI; then CBP will offer you a locaton that's available. I would worry about being "pigeon holed". All the best.
