Just saw it in this week's Air Force Times. The story is not on their website, so I can't post a link (it's probably in their subscriber section for anyone eligible to login there.)
Senate bill just passed raising the maximum entry age for Federal law enforcement jobs...up to age 47 if you're a military retiree.

The legal link that was posted before makes it sound like those without Veteran's Preference would still not be eligible. This link is an article on Sen Hatch's recently passed legislation that doesn't say anything about eligibility and simply states that the age limits for military retirees is 47 years old.

Yep, that's the bill I was talking about. USMC's linked story is pretty much verbatim of the The AF Times story I mentioned.
USMC, looks like CBP may be an option for old guys like us after all. Hope this goes through the House as well.

Mod note: that is the last reference I'll make to politicians so that I don't cross a line and have to delete my own post for venturing into forbidden ground. Let's NOT go partisian here!

8 of us got emails a few weeks ago asking a few questions and for a copy of our Drivers License.
Were you one of them?

I've also found out that unless the ladies in Minneapolis physically holds your file in their hands don't even bother asking them for future FLETC start periods.

I was another one that got that email. I was asked for my DD214 in addition to the DL. I sent them a DD214 and was told that my military time would not be counted towards veterans preference and that they needed more paperwork. I emailed them copies of my medals, including my Iraqi Campaign Medal and Air medals. So I was told to send them additional paperwork if I hadn't reported for duty by then, or just to wait and give it to my branch once I did report for duty. What's ridiculous is that the BI investigator physically went to my unit and has all the paperwork that shows I'm a veteran.
I can only hope its not this disorganized once we're on the inside.
