bill cosby when talking about his father made a very good point. his father ate dirt for 30 years and he was thankful for it. he walked to school at 4am with no shoes on in the snow. no matter how much he suffered he was thankful. it all depends on where your coming from

Called Oklahoma yesterday. The less than good news is that the last batch that interviewed in Dec were supposed to get calls in mid January. Turns out there's a delay (big shocker) and the calls for the "tentative" offers wont start till beginning to mid February.
I hope the old saying is true: "All good things come to those who wait", or something along those lines.

Started working on my heli rating... hear houston only takes dual qual guys... Got an e-mail through a friend in HR @ CBP (no help) that you just have to have the ratings to be considered dual qual.... Its expensive, but guys buy type ratings and other specialized training to get jobs.... Atleast this training is fun... and shows how badly I want the job...

what are a rough estimate on the cost of those ratings, just out of curiosity? and what ratings exactly are you getting?

Also if dual qual you'd still have to prove your "flying skill" at the interview in Oklahoma in both fixed and rotary wing, thus that's something to consider.
One last thing (and I may be misunderstanding your post) you want to show "how badly you want the job" by getting your helo rating but not by accepting any other location other than Houston?

This topic came up in my interview, because I was planning to get the ratings after a job offer.
I was told in the interview that CBP has recently started paying for fixed wing pilots to go get their helo ratings.
