Availability timeline and interview dates
For those who have been fortunate enough to get an interview at a major, about how far in advance of your availability date were you offered an interview? My plan is to have all my apps published at a year out from my expected terminal leave date, but I'll be on deployment until about 6 months from terminal leave. Anyone been offered an interview date more than 6 months from availability? Also, I don't plan on doing it, but what is the gouge on folks playing with fire in terms of an availability date?

If you aren’t getting calls within that 90days from terminal leave start date, go take that regional Job you have in your back pocket so you can add 121 experience to your resume/ applications once terminal leave starts.

There was a time when UAL was sending mil guys that had an app on file but a somewhat distant separation date an email. Something along the lines of "please contact when you are 6 months (I think) from your available date as listed on your app to start the selection process" or something.
But not sure if they still do.
And naturally, worth reading if you havent already;

Thanks for the replies. I've read those posts from Albie before and I've been through an EC seminar already where some of that was covered. Good info on the letter from United, I heard of one guy getting that, but from a fairly large sample size. It looks like 6 months will be plenty of time to wait for a potential interview after deployment return, as long as most everything is set up prior to my departure.
My question about playing with fire on availability was more for morbid curiosity. There is no way I'd try it because I'd be the one guy out of 50 that gets bit in the ass!
