Unstacking ensures work coverage when after the PBS system runs too many pairings are not covered (too few pilots for the amount of work). Unless you are willing to bid reserve, they will load up your schedule ignoring your bid preferences.
The unstacking results in “coverage awards”. Every single FO in IAH that received a line received at least one coverage pairing. A coverage pairing is a pairing that basically ignores your bid preferences.
Basically, it sucks if you have a life outside of Mesa.

Again. Unstacking does not “ignore your bid”.
That is all.....

Sigh, this is why I created the account in the first place. It does not “ignore your bid”. Unstacking only designates that you have to work a specific day/days. It still reads your bid and assigns trips from your bid.

I know it tries to meet bid preferences when it unstacks, but if you are on the receiving end of it not honoring nearly all one’s preferences —- to that pilot, it feels like it “ignores your bid” and your explanation simply falls on deaf ears.

Your cool-aid is a little sour there MagPBS. Many of us here know who you are, and the role you play in the company. The bid may not be ignored, but it DOES disregard ones bid preferences. We have been at Mesa long enough to see EXACTLY how unstacking works, what it does, and what it doesn’t do. We not drinking.
2. Just went back through the IAH FO runs. If PBS disregards your bid, then why do all of these coverage awards tell you EXACTLY what part of your bid it used to award pairings to you?
Here's just a couple examples of some of the most junior (i.e. most unstacked) guys.
HXXXX 2018-01-01 (016:30) from Bid 26 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-05 (021:02) from Bid 27 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-13 (021:12) from Bid 26 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-21 (015:53) from Bid 26 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-27 (024:04) from Bid 23 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-01 (020:46) from Bid 8 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-14 (021:15) from Bid 8 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-08 (021:43) from Bid 8 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-20 (020:40) from Bid 8 (FO)
HXXXX* 2018-01-29 (007:08) from Bid 8 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-02 (015:57) from Bid 7 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-14 (020:48) from Bid 6 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-08 (021:32) (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-21 (020:40) from Bid 10 (FO)
HXXXX 2018-01-27 (020:53) from Bid 6 (FO)
Oh and my favorite (much more senior):
HXXXX 2018-01-08 (021:10) from Bid 12 (FO)
What's line 12?
12. Award Pairings If Pairing Number HXXXX
Awarded for coverage: 1
Gave exactly what this pilot asked for specific pairing and all.
If you actually take the time to put AWARD commands into your bid. Unstacking will look at those and do it's best to award you trips from those commands.
So explain how that completely ignores your bid?

Now, having said all that. Unstacking is not designed to be a crutch for staffing issues. That's where the problem currently lies with the Mesa runs.
But it doesn't just ignore your bid and give you whatever the hell it wants.

My bidding is simple. I just want a few specific days off and I’m in the lower half of the Capt sernority list. Just like October I got 4 coverage awards. All I wanted was two sundays off and the coverage awards fell right on both Sunday’s. My last regional never had coverage awards and it’s the worst thing about Mesa. I’m sure the sick calls are going to be crazy just like in October.

I suspect we will see a string of FO’s jumping ship for Spirit or another regional.
Recently, I ran into an FO who came from SkyWest who was exhausted from being on reserve there. All I can say is welcome to flying and drinking from a fire hose.

The only difference from October is now the FO’s are feeling the pain too. I have not flown a pairing yet in any month where one of the CA’s was leaving. I thought I would get through Dec without flying with a CA on his way out. That ended today. My string of going month over month flying with at least one CA leaving remains unbroken.

Lines
Howdy guys,
Quick question:
As an E-jet FO , How many hours can you actually accrue on a 4 day trip. Basically are the lines efficient and take you over minimum credit?
Is there any difference between CRJ and E-jet lines credit wise, meaning longer hauls on either frame?
About to pull the trigger but need to break guarantee to survive and also have time to see the wife and kiddos.
Thanks.
