I wish I could justify leaving.. I'm just now accumulating PIC time and I'm not so sure about going to Spirit, Frontier, etc. Yes they are better places, but shouldn't I, at this point, shoot for a Legacy carrier? They say PIC time doesn't matter when it fact it does. Yes people get hired without it, but that frequency is incredibly low. I haven't quite been here 2 years and am left seat on the 175. I live in IAH and can't justify making another lateral move. You do have all valid points though.
Also, look at the hiring environment 2-3 years ago. Many companies started to reduce or remove their hiring minimums/qualifications. It's so easy to get a job at a regional right now. Just think what it'll be like at the majors in a couple years.
If you continue to build your time here you'll be giving up seniority and potential upgrade at an LCC. The majors will be cherry pick hiring at these LCC's and leave you at their regional feeders.
Getting out of here should be your 1st priority. You'll never see an industry average contract here. These hotels will only get marginally better as they move a bad hotel in one city they swap a good hotel in another.
I'll gladly take a job at an LCC and make room for JO to keep his fast upgrade gravy train a rollin.

It'll take you 12-16 months building your 1000 hours of TPIC at Mesa in a regional jet. Or you can get an Airbus type with Frontier or Spirit and last resort MD80 or Bus type at Allegiant. 2nd year FO pay at these three are better than 3-4 yr CA pay at Mesa.

From what I can tell, unless you can take advantage of EEOC laws or you are just incredibly well networked at mainline, your chances of getting "the call" while at Mesa are very slim. Think about it...why would mainline endanger their cheapest regional contractor (one with staffing problems) when they can poach pilots from an LCC and thus hinder that LCCs ability to grow and take over more share of the market?

I came here understanding the work rules, but the fact that I can drive to the airport in nice weather and start my trip to get PIC time is worth a lot to me. Plus my wife's family is 15 mins away. Make fun if you will but I feel like I need more of a reason to get out than I currently have. I have multiple connections at United that tell me to stay put and build PIC. Just thought I'd throw out a little more. Thanks for the information though.

I completely agree, but shouldn't I at least wait till my 1000? I'm already at 500 (came in with prior 121 PIC). I still want to have Southwest and FedEX in my backpocket and they won't touch you without it. True I could go to Allegiant or Frontier/Spirit/Jetblue, but it'll take me 3+ years to upgrade and moving expenses to whatever base. I gotta think about my wife in this mix as well. Jetblue is probably the best choice, but JFK?.. I'm done commuting at this point and the cost of living is $$$ in NYC. Sure the 2nd year pay is good and training would be cake (same aircraft).

Seems like you already have your answer and your mind made up. I'd say there's no reason for you to keep coming on the b!tch board asking for advice but answering your own questions. If you don't see that any LCC is a better choice for your career than Mesa then you and I are far apart in this discussion and I'm not the guy you should listen to.

I always find it interesting how people move on to somewhere better with more money and time off, or so they claim, and still manage to find nothing better to do with their extra time than come back and complain about a comapany and pilots they no longer work for. Talk about a crazy ex....

Southwest will call y'all right away. Oh wait you need the 1k pic. Same with most decent corporate jobs or if the economy takes a dump. Everyone I know at an LLC that has moved on already had their 1k pic..... The ones that don't are still there.
