Good point. IMO handholding and pushing people through training who don't belong on the flight deck is also a lot worse than picking up open time. FWIW, I heard an instructor talking about a recent new hire FO trainee who is 64 years old. They gave him 17 or 18 sim sessions and he still couldn't make it. Altogether, his per-diem, hotel, and training cost was $80k. Along with this stuff, they're hiring people to research ideas and lobby for eliminating the 1500 hour rule. This is the kind of BS that money is being spent on while claiming there's no more money for us. You heard AH say that himself in that last MAG MEC rag. Anyone telling us there's no money is full of $#1+. Oh, there's money alright ... just for everyone & everything other than flight crews.
Among my top reasons for wanting to leave Mesa are the terrible FOs making it to the line. It just isn't safe. It shouldn't be necessary for the captain to constantly have to intervene. I've advised my family members to stay off Mesa flights. Even chose a different commuter flight when I saw the captain (failed first upgrade attempt) and FO (multiple sim failures and awful in the cockpit) who would be operating my flight the other day.

Well kids, I’m now a LAMA.
I’d like to thank all of you who were a part of my Mesa experience.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to be associated with you all.
Thoughtfully considered where Mesa was and where Mesa was likely to be in the next 6-18 months.
Also, could not say no to the opportunity for greatly increasing my income.
Best wishes to all of you!

Good luck man.
Funny the rumor mill is as quiet as it's ever been here at Mesa. And aren't we past due for the next JO phone conference. And when are the new ejets supposed to start showing up, I thought it was this month.

Here's one of the problems as I see it. There are at least 3 maybe more, pilot groups here at Mesa.
1. The pilots that have been here for 15 years or more. Let's call them the senior folks.
2. The newer pilots (we'll call them the kids) whose plan is to come to Mesa, get the needed experience, whether it be 121 time, TPIC, etc. and then move on.
3. Mesa mainline. The E jet folks.
The seniors are making pretty decent money and probably don't want to go anywhere else. Their agenda is to not risk too much in getting a new contract. They'd like more money and better QOL improvements but a what cost? They'll risk a little but aren't willing to go the extra step. They don't want to take the chance (understandably so) of losing (not loosing ) their source of income.
The kids on the other hand basically don't care about the future of the pilot group at Mesa because all they want is that needed experience and they'll be gone in a year or so. What I would say to the kids: that is exacrly what the senior folks said when they got hired years ago at Mesa and they're still here.
Mesa mainline does not want a contract that will allow the senior CRJ folks to bid over to the Ejet. Or senior FOs for that matter.
What we have here is a fractured group of pilots each with a different agenda. As long as JO can keep us fractured he wins. The only thing that will bring him to the table is lack of pilots. Or an inability to hire because other carriers offer so much more. If we can somehow stop the new hire bonuses then he will be forced to seriously negotiate. And he will. I noticed between the losses and gains for April, we're down 2 pilots from the last global seniority list update.
