All the guys picking up open time really aren't helping either. I scan it occasionally and see lots later in the month in multiple bases. Look a few days later and voila, it's mostly gone. As a bonus, after this whole Spirit debacle, I guess my signature is illegal. So that's cool.
What's frustrating is Spirit files for an injunction against its pilots, and a court responds in the next day or so. Our union sues over the new hire bonuses, and it's drawn out in perpetuum. Did we ever file for an actual injunction in the mean time?
While it's too late now, I said it a few pages back and I'll say it again: The moral here is to not pick up open time, during open contract negotiations or otherwise. Doing so hurts our status quo leverage when it comes time to bargain (which is more than half the time at Mesa), and statistically it means less airline pilot jobs. There's a reason Delta's contract doesn't allow pilots to work on their vacations.

You blame guys picking up open time so they can fatten their pocket is not the answer.

While you're at it why don't you call out the guys who are instructors, recruiters, and check airmen who do IOE. If we didn't have any of these positions filled we wouldn't staff and believe me our growth would come to a screeching halt.

I'm also not particularly fond of the recruiting department, but that's all I'll say about that.
Par for course.
...a recent new hire FO trainee who is 64 years old. They gave him 17 or 18 sim sessions and he still couldn't make it. Altogether, his per-diem, hotel, and training cost was $80k. Along with this stuff, they're hiring people to research ideas and lobby for eliminating the 1500 hour rule... Oh, there's money alright ... just for everyone & everything other than flight crews.

Reminder: DFW has an LEC meeting on Tuesday.
The #1 thing you can do as a pilot at Mesa is show up and be involved. Participation is historically low. This ones important. Regardless of where you fall on the agenda item your voice on it doesn't mean squat if you don't show up and engage. If you are not there, you don't get to complain anymore.
Also, PBS is about to open. No better time then now to make sure your bid is doing EXACTLY what you think it's suppose to do. Take ownership. Learn the system. Ask questions. I'll be in the crewroom Sunday & Monday and at the meeting Tuesday.
