I'm guessing he got a pretty good deal on the E175 flying from United. Probably a lot better than his CR7 contract. It's all speculation, though. Some of those CRJs are getting long in the tooth. If he had to cancel flights and give back flying, it would probably involve the older aircraft that cost more with maintenance/engines and were negotiated when the going FFD rate was lower. No one really knows the financials behind any of the flying, lease agreements, CPAs, aircraft purchases, mx, etc., but I doubt JO would take anything on that wasn't financially beneficial for himself and the company. But if I were JO I would rather fly 12 brand new planes with EMB support under a brand new agreement and give back some of the old beater CRJs that are used and abused mx pigs, depending of course on the economics of the whole thing.

So you consider the guys and gals you fly with everyday bottom of the barrel? Those same bottom feeders you speak of are the same guys and gals who work hard to keep this operation moving. No single person here is above or better than anyone else. We all have different situations and personal responsibilities. Bottom of the barrel is a low blow. But there are other 175 and 900 operators out there. Everyone has the option of choosing one.

Don't believe me? Ask the training department for facts regarding the quality of newhires, average sim sessions required, average pass rate, etc. There are some who have money and can afford to go to Mesa and choose Mesa based solely on the base, but that isn't the majority of those hired in the last 6 months.

Is Mesa training "quick" compared to other regional? I thought all regional trainings have similar foot print, no? If no, someone please let me know how many weeks from Indoc to IOE at Mesa.
