I was asked by the Communications group to get them some real numbers, since what's flying around here are way off. They've given me the ok to put them up here ahead of the hotline tomorrow.
Data is based off the last 4 months, which makes for a good average set due to high holidays and low new years flying. All numbers are based off Captains.
Average # of lines is 187. With 48 aircraft currently that's 3.9 lines per aircraft. (I also did this math with block hours to verify my work)
12 more aircraft at 3.9 lines each is 47 additional lines.
47 lines + a "planned" 15% reserve coverage means we need 55 more Captains to cover these aircraft.
55 Captains means we need to hire 110 more FOs (FOs to match CAs + cover upgrading FOs).
Assuming all aircraft are in IAH the final roster count with all 60 planes on property would be about 270 Captains. With about 235 getting lines.
There are currently 218 Captains on the 175. So everyone currently on it will be line holders + an additional 18. The rest will be reserve.
These numbers DO NOT take into account anyone currently in upgrade and not online. Not sure what that is, but lets say there's about a dozen in the pipeline right now. Means roughly 40 more upgrades and pretty much all would be on reserve.
These numbers don't take into account attrition. So keep that in mind.
These numbers are also strictly my rough calculations from available data. Nothing I've presented has come from the company in any fashion.

As for upgrading, the estimates assume you take any CA slot available. If you want to stay in your current base it could be a lot longer (or possibly shorter), depends on what those above you choose to do.

You never know with our management, but I think they'd allow everyone in IAD the option of switching equipment over closing the base then re-opening it a while later. In fact, if they're coming in May, they'd pretty much have to.
