Rumor has it that there will be an announcement of more airplanes in January.
The 55 CA upgrades were just an estimate. Looks like an effort to keep FOs on the hook. Right now the upgrade time here is 3+ years based on number of upgrades during last 6 months and the projected 55 in next 6 months. Example: Someone hired a year ago has approx 270-290 FOs above them. Assuming all upgrade ahead of you that is nearly 3 years, plus the year on property already. Many will leave before upgrade and a few will not take the upgrade so 3 to 3.5 years is the current best estimate.

I can't imagine why they would think they could staff growth when we're very understaffed as it is. If captains are getting unstacked to nearly the top of the seniority list, then there's a problem. we've lost over 40 captains in the last 3 months, so why would 50ish upgrades in six months be a fix? They're so out of touch it's comical.

Monthly, Mesa management floats rumors of more planes, more pay, new flying. Most pilots I know have stopped repeating this misinformation.

I really want to know where you make this stuff up from.

We haven't had a 100% CA unstacking run in years. In fact I had to go back to June of 2015 to find a CA run unstacked above 70%. So, strike 1.

So comparing November CA #'s with Sept CA #'s (your 3 month quote).
DFW lost 8 CA.
IAD stayed the same.
IAH GAINED 14 CA.
PHX lost 1 CA.

No where close to your 40. Strike 2.

And finally all the CRJ bases have at least a 20% reserve coverage (CA side) for November so claiming where unstaffed on the Captain side is totally wrong too. Strike 3.

Now, the FO side of the house is a completely different discussion. But all your claims were for Captains.

Mesa has about 1300 pilots, 700 CA (at least that’s what it was when I left this summer). If you start today then (without growth) 600 needs to leave. How long would that take? Probably some time. Why take the chance on Mesa (that they will have growth and/or CA will move on) when there are WO with flow. Envoy has a flow +300 in 2017 and 300 in 2018, on a 1950 pilot group. They also pay better w higher retention bonus

I think JO needs to hype the growth to survive because without it Mesa will not attract pilots. The problem I see is that Mesa can’t attract enough pilots to staff the growth. Growth was great the last 3 years when the WO 1st year pay was around $26-30/h, but not at $40. Especially not with laughable 1st year pay is combined with poor QOL and expensive health insurance.
