Any news on what's happening at the training department? How big are the training classes recently?

Up until this point, growth was helping Mesa fill classes.
Growth requires new pilots. Attracting new pilots, requires a competitive salary (bare minimum of $40+/hour) and a competive contract. Upgrades are coming down everywhere and some regionals are even hiring direct entry captains. It will take a new hire at least a year and a half to get the 1000 hours required to upgrade, and by that time you'd be eligible to upgrade or nearly eligible to upgrade almost anywhere in a couple years from now. Things will be moving very quickly everywhere due to mainline hiring. So, bottom line, the "upgrade carrot" will not work anymore. At least it won't work for the more informed newcomer.
So, if Mesa wants to grow, or even attract enough pilots to stay status quo with upcoming attrition, they will have to offer competitive salaries and a competitive contract, just like everyone else.
An uncompetitive TA like the one offered, can be the end of Mesa. For an airline to survive in today's environment you have to be able to attract AND retain, BOTH Captains and FO's. It takes both to fly the plane.
You can't fly planes without pilots. It's that simple.

To those of you new to the industry, this is what you typically see with most "real" ALPA chapters when your MEC says "we secured improvements in all sections and unanimously voted to send this TA to a vote":
"The Trans States MEC kicked off a series of road shows this week to discuss the details of the contract-extension LOA reached with management in August. The tentative agreement provides TSA pilots with the second-best 50-seat pay rate in the industry for both captains and first officers starting in 2016. The three-year deal also secures cost-of-living adjustments, 401(k) improvements, large reductions in capped insurance premiums, and a signing bonus, among other gains."

First impressions........
And contrary to popular opinion, the "FNGs" aren't the ones you have to worry about voting yes en mass on this horrid piece of work. It's the older crowd, the guys/gals who have been here for 20+ years and can't leave, who will try to push this POS through. Any newer FO could bail and not be any worse off working anywhere else in this industry.

The senior ****s here are going to sell us down the River.
There are approximately 350 to 400 pilots here who can't even vote on this travesty.

And if they do accept this TA, they are shooting themselves in the foot. An airline can not operate with only Captains. It has to be attractive for FOs also, not only to attract them, but also to retain them.

Exactly. Not only will they not go to Mesa, they will leave in droves, and in many cases come close to doubling their take home income after the insurance effect, in the process.
The strategy for airline management at this point needs to be - how can we be one of the best airlines from a pilot's perspective. The airlines that attract pilots, are the airlines that will survive.

What makes you guys think the classes won't fill up if this crappy TA passes? It's horrible now and they are still 100% full!! Literally the ONLY thing Mesa can do at this point to keep it full is to add airframes. This circumvents any bonuses or what not. More birds = low upgrade times = full classes = Manamengt doesn't have to shell out crap. Barring any of this... Yes we will suffer.

Setting aside the compensation issues the company overreached with the time balancing language and I think that was the final nail in the coffin for many.

I hope this fails by a large margin. Like 90% no vote. One can hope
