They might take a chunk out of your final paycheck if you leave after only a few months or with no notice.

Get your dream job at 11 months and give 2 weeks notice, shouldn't be a problem.

Note that it's one year from your checkride, not your start date.

Training contract is no good in Arizona. It is a right-to-work state. Google it. If you pay anything on the training contract, your a fool.

Unless they changed it, that's incorrect. It starts when you sign it, but doesn't go into effect until you pass Checkride or OE (not sure). AKA if you can't pass initial training they you aren't responsible... which is fair.

Really?

Right to work means you can't be forced to pay union dues, however airline and railway employees don't have this protection.

Right to work has nothing to do with a training contract. The training contract is absolutely enforceable, however this requires expensive litigation and it's usually cheaper for a company to cut its losses when employees don't hold up their end.

I would sure hate to have to answer in an interview what happened when I broke a training contract. Or have creditors come after me. Or get sued and taken to court. Even if I could fight it and win, or even if Mesa didn't come after the money at all, it's still a risky proposition in the probably small chance that Mesa decided to make it painful for people. With 45 days notice the debt is halved...it's not that much money after it is prorated then halved.

Just out of curiosity, Where does it say anything about a 45 day notice cutting obligation in half?

This is first I've heard of this?

It says it right on the note itself. I'm 100% on this.

Page 11-4 of your contract also says it. Lots of other good stuff in that document. It's probably worth your time to read.
