Junior Captain is a September '15 hire. In many cases it's as fast as you get the required SIC time, but then you may be on reserve indefinitely. Other places have direct-entry Captains, so we're not necessarily the "fastest."

Realistically if you have the qualifications and the 121 time you'll upgrade CRJ IAD in less than 6 months of your hire date. Reason, from you hire date it'll be 3-4 months before you hit the line. Then you'll change your bid CA-IAD and get it within a couple months. If you're coming in with the qualifications and zero 121 you'll need the 1000 hours sic so it'll take 18 months to 2 years and then who knows where and what Mesa will be doing by then. As of the last roster we now have over 1300 pilots. Not sure how many of those are FO's. You can guess about half. Will all those upgrade? Don't know.
Compass has upgrades 6-12 months.
PSA has mentioned hiring street CA's
Skywest 2.5 to 4 years
TSA hiring CA qualified now.
So, all that being said pick a regional that best suits you. Live in base! Get in get out

Excellent info & advice. Especially those last few sentences. There's nothing else that will rob the joy out of this job as quickly and completely as a difficult commute.

Commuting will also destroy your will to move on to a major or national as you will feel more motivation to leave the industry. Living on base makes it a billion times better, and restores your hope for a better future.

They will send something to you saying how much you owe. Give 45 days notice and whatever you owe is cut in half. Plus its pro rated

The only reason I haven't applied is the training bond. Being on the hook for several thousand dollars seems foolish in this market if your dream job comes calling. Thanks for the info guys.

Where are you now and why would you quit there to go to Mesa?
