As for Captains, nothing is worse than a CA who complains about his FO's, especially behind their back, in the crew room. It makes you look like an ass, and everyone loses respect for you.
My view on being a CA, best advice I can give is that you have patience, you treat everyone the way you wish to be treated, AND YOU HELP NEW FO's who are struggling.
YES Your job is 100 times harder when your with a weak FO, and YES it is your job to help them succeed, not belittle them. Damnit, the female unit wants my attention...
On the same note, is it outrageous to ask for an FO who knows how to do their job? Jesus Christ folks, we're airline pilots not cashiers. We can only do on the job training safely to a certain extent. The fact that some FOs in this industry are sitting at the pointy end of an airliner is downright frightening. Enough with letting everyone try their hand in being an airline pilot. Captains shouldn't have to be flying with someone in the right seat who is making their job harder than it would be if they were flying single pilot - competent, English speaking FOs should be the norm.

An FO who acts like your online persona. I am pretty sure you are completely different face to face, otherwise we would all know who you are.

I had a Captain a few parings ago tell me,"Thank you for not scaring me." Then told me a few pretty sketchy situations with new FOs. Sucks because that increases their workload that much more having to babysit. Like being a CFI all over again.

Yes, exactly like being a CFI all over again, but everyone started somewhere, and it is only a temporary thing unless the new FO is not open to learning, in which case they should be terminated.

Forever. Go somewhere else and actually make a living wage.

Says the guy who came to Mesa when 9e was offering $20k a year bonuses, other airlines like SKW, CPZ, and XJT to name a few had higher pay. And when pay scales and bonuses got even higher at other carriers, you continue to hate on your company on the forum yet don't do anything about it. Why don't you go somewhere else and make a living wage? You can make more at 9e the first year than you will this year and next at Mesa.

You sure all those carriers had higher pay by that much in 2014? When i did my research back then however my focus was mainly on the DFW carriers. And yea 2 months away from upgrade sure I'll leave lol.

So whose job is it to "help" that struggling FO if the CA keels over and dies? Is it my job to dutifully HELP them find the right QRH checklist if there's an inflight emergency? When I'm dead?

If you really, really want to go down the road of me being "Captain CFI" (even if I die), you aren't going to like it at all, bc if that's my job description I'm going to "teach" you the excruciating details of the CFM/"how to fly the EJet without using VS mode ever" and debrief everything you screw up/everything you actually did right. Every leg.

You sure you want that? Or maybe it'd be better if you showed up day 1 prepared and knowledgable and able to speak aviation English, since I am not on check airman pay. Then if you want to do all your legs hand flying and fly the EJet like a CRJ in green modes constantly I'll cut you some slack, since we've both agreed it's not my job to teach you. Just a thought.
