Ok back on topic--this isn't an April Fool's Day post at all:
Mesa's hotels suuuuuuuuuuuck. We're the only flight crews staying in any of these dumps (ONLY exceptions to my statement being ATL, TUL, BFL, DCA).
I'd rather sleep on the plane for roughly 90% of our overnights. Not joking at all--the planes (and their lavs) are cleaner and quieter and nicer than most of our LaDumpas and Americ--Oh--No--Inns and Best Worsterns. I guess since Mesa once left crews on planes/airport ops lounges not too long ago, they probably still see any hotel accomodations (no matter how bad) as a luxury, basically--so maybe that historical mentality continues unabated?
No human being on company assignment should ever stay in a hotel that's anything less than the quality of their own home--ever. Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Hampton, and their affiliated subsidiary/umbrella brands: those comprise most overnights for most airlines that are not Mesa Airlines.
If you feel otherwise--and you're fine with a LaQuinta/Microtel/Ramada MOTEL--places ZERO other flight crews stay at in ANY of our overnights--you're probably an uneducated slob who lives in a messy trailer/camper/car/crashpad/tent, and you don't really even understand the difference in smell, cleanliness, and noise level of a properly-constructed, properly-cleaned/audited national brand hotel. Sorry you've never experienced that--it's a way better way to live/exist/sleep at night.
There's a reason the OKC hotel went from "Hampton" to "AmericInn"...there's a reason LaQuintas are cheaper than Courtyard Marriotts. Guys--the free breakfast/in-room microwave at LaQuinta are nowhere near worth the dirt, grime, blood-stains and overall filth of almost every hotel with that horrible name attached to it.
I personally wish they'd extend the hotel buyback program to allow some of our dumpy slob pilots/FAs to just sleep on the streets/in a tent like they seem to be ok with. Then re-route the cost savings to the remaining crewmembers who grew up in "clean" environments in upper middle class-type houses/ranches/etc., and/or got used to "hotels" (not "motels") in our previous careers.
Anyways, whatever, nothing is going to change--too many people with SJS and the illusion that they're going to upgrade in a year.

I don't think anyone disagrees, but you can't call in fatigued every bad hotel you stay at. Most of us have submitted numerous complaints on specific hotels for years and nothing has changed. Not sure what else there is to do besides get better hotel language in TA '19.

The ones I really didn't care for were SDF because of the long hike to the lobby, and those horrid Sleep Number beds in HSV. BHM was in a crappy area but the hotel itself was fine. And then of course PHX.

SOME of Mesa's hotels suck, I'll grant you that. But there are some pretty decent ones too: I'll add MAF, LBB, BUR, HOU, LGB (those last two may have changed since I left) to your exceptions list--all very nice. And I hear MRY and SBP are nice, too.

How do SkyWest's hotels compare? Is the grass a lot greener, or just a little?

Some of Mesa's hotels suck? Understatement of the year. My decision to leave Mesa has been the best one of my life and the hotel situation is only the start of it. Good luck to all of you still at Mesa...it baffles me why some of you insist on staying there. Oh wait, no it doesn't. You all think that with an upgrade you will get chased down the street by a major the second you hit 1,000 hours PIC.
Best of luck with that. Just remember, swapping seats with the FO and letting him/her land from the left seat will probably not do wonders for your career. Especially when an aircraft spotter just happens to take a picture the moment she hits the wingtip on the runway.

Any psychology minors want to diagnose?
