I'm neither old or young I'm in the middle so I have some experience on both ends I've seen old guys wash out of training and I've definitely seen young guys wash out the training it really depends on how hard the individuals worked in relation to their skill level that's what it boils down to boys. Every hot shot young kid that's out there I can show you 10 old guys that will blow them out the water with experience foreveryone old guy that thinks he knows it all I can show you 10 young guys who are eager to learn

Look I'm honestly not trying to bash. I just think we are so afraid of busting an altitude/restriction that we let our skills degrade by letting the automation do everything for us. When it hits the fan and those skills are needed, I hope we can dust them off appropriately. I regularly hand fly up to 15 or 20k just so i stay sharp.

Yes it definitely could apply to younger guys. However most of the weekend warrior types tend to be older given the time it takes to get through training and build experience to ATP mins. Most of us regional pilots in our 20s have had some sort of full time flying job to get to ATP mins, which means most of us flew on days that weren't clear, blue, and a million (Transpac CFIs excluded) as a condition of employment.

Shameless APC Googling: If you get a line, but then go to training during that month, do you get paid for the hours and you were awarded?
I'm gonna venture a guess that you lose anything you don't fly down to the min guarantee, and that you get no per diem in training, right?
