New Mesa Thread

Just an FYI for those who haven't voted yet:
I just ran the numbers based on current Mesa book and new SkyWest book; For September, I would've made $366 more on 1st yr SkyWest pay than I will on Mesa 2nd year pay for the same line. Differences come from higher pay rate, min day guarantee, and higher perdiem rate.

Being in my 40s, I have to be okay with the possibility of a regional being the final stop in my airline career, and I'm not okay with Mesa being that place. I don't know a single long-time captain who is glad they stayed at Mesa, and I know many who planned on being there only long enough to get their 1000 TPIC and get out, who are still there after 15 years. I also live in a SkyWest base, where I'd have to go back to DFW or even IAD if I stuck around and took the upgrade at Mesa.
Today is officially my last day with the company, I start class at SkyWest tomorrow morning. I'm grateful for my time at Mesa, I trained with and flew with lot of great people (as well as a few I hope I never see again). It's gonna suck going to the 200 after being spoiled by the 700/900, but I'm happy with my decision to bail.

Assuming they'll still be running upgrades in 6 months, you mean? The last growth 900 has been delivered. There are no more airplanes coming (SkyWest got the UA 175s Mesa was hoping for). And there are a lot of guys junior to me at Mesa who came from other carriers and will hit their 1000 hrs 121 SIC before I will. Nearly two dozen pilots junior to me have upgraded already (or are in upgrade training). I knew when I started that my class would be right on the edge of the quick upgrades, and that was before I knew how many newhires already had several hundred hours at other carriers.

The only new planes Mesa will get are the ones from carriers thats are loosing them (if that even happens). Ya we all might upgrade faster here but we are still going to be working under the same BS Mesa contract. How many of you guys have talked to CAs with some time here and they have said "I love Mesa"? Every CA here that I have flown with pretty much doesn't like being here and wants out ASAP and they can't get calls back form mainline.
I dont blame any FO, new or senior, for wanting to leave to a better company regardless of how close they are to upgrade. Sure you might be only making a lateral move, but you will at least enjoy more money, better work rules and health benis than here. Just saying

Not a pity party in the slightest. Staying an FO for a few more years, living in base, for a better company that doesn't nickel-and-dime me at every turn is a better choice for me than upgrading at Mesa and going back to DFW or IAD. Turbine PIC is quickly becoming irrelevant in the grand scheme of things; the majors are going to need ALL of us before long, PIC time or not.
YMMV.
