It helps to not be an obese slob, also. Lots of chubbies at Mesa aren't going to fare well in a one-on-one interview for that reason.
It's fine to get big/greasy once you're at a legacy--but it certainly affects getting in the door.

Don't think that's an isolated Mesa issue. There's some very pasty, waxy, mofo's waddling around remote terminals nationwide with a Mcd's bag clenched tightly in their paw. If the uniform fits half as bad as an interview suit I'd kick em to the curb STAT!

Seriously. If I see another incredibly overweight pilot in his 20s, I'm just going to lose it.
I don't care how well you think your uniform is pressed or how well you can hand fly an approach, if you look like you just ate your Captain/FO, you're not a professional pilot.

Not really...I'd say 75% of pilots flying in Muricia couldn't get a medical in Asia.
With that being said, I've seen some "bigger" Virgin Merica pilots...the black uniform just makes them look one size smaller.

And God forbid anyone puts one in the dirt or in the water, but if it did ever happen you would want crew members who are more fit to assist passengers in that kind of emergency.

Why is it unfortunate? I'm probably going to sound like a Richard, but obesity is a liability to the airline. Overweight people in general are more prone to medical complications and don't get as good quality of sleep as someone with a normal range BMI. Plus how many pilots have you seen that couldn't fit through the emergency hatch in a pinch?

I see everyone's point, just feel for people that genetically are big people. I mean its easy to say you can control your own weight, but not easy to do. I know some pilots that are overweight, but are still in pretty good shape and are great pilots.
My danger zone weight I won't allow myself to eclipse is 200lbs. I am tall though.
