The legacies have not changed their requirements just so they can hire low time first officers.
They have dropped certain requirements so that the certain exceptions can be hired.
The is NO pilot shortage at the majors.
At the regional level alone, there are 5-7k worth of experienced CAs each having 3k + worth of TPIC trying to move on.
I was trying to understand why you seem to be so miseducated, I read some other posts and realized that you're a C-152 CFI.
Thanks, I just got my daily LOL.
Probably would be helpful to do a couple years actually working in the industry before you give advice.
Or maybe an initial training experience and IOE to humble ya a little. Don't ya think?

If you suck, eventually you will get weeded out at Mesa. Nice people get many chances, jerks do not. I have to say that the pilot group is a great bunch of people to work with. Regionals can't afford to be picky, they need to fill seats. The job itself is the selection process.
As for the upgrade times, it depends on the Captains moving on. It has been a very slow trickle. I say the vast majority of attrition has been with f.o's.

Can anyone speak to the 175 operation in IAH? Think XJT guys are passing around rumors that they're gonna be flying your 175s soon. Even though from my small research into it, you guys seem to be expanding and flying to 8-10 destinations right now.

We've covered this several times in this thread already. Last time was just a couple of pages back. The Mesa E175 in IAH is currently #1 in all performance metrics among all UAX carriers. IF there is any talking going on, it's about more, not fewer aircraft.

So several queries and no responses later, I am assuming JO didn't say anything noteworthy at the town hall meeting. Anyone hear anything different?

Couldn't agree more. Talked to a United guy who came out of training recently. He said average new hire at United is 45 with 14Kish total time and 7Kish TPIC.
Do you need TPIC to be hired at a major? No. Will everyone else be hired in front of you that has TPIC? Likely.

We are seeing some folks with 0 TPIC getting hired but they are few and far between. Most likely they are former interns, etc.

To expand on this, we have over 13,000 applicants in the airline apps pool for UA. Captain's from Jetblue, World Airways, and some others have recently come in for meet & greets. I personally have written an LOR for a friend who's an A330 CA at Emirates. If things stay status quo with deliveries, etc then we will be hiring 60 per month for the foreseeable future. As soon as management makes a decision on the 100 seat aircraft then we will most certainly increase hiring.

Sounds like buying a lottery ticket is just as productive as filling out resumes at the big three. I heard of one low time f.o. getting hired at American, and placed in one of the first new hire classes. His father was one of the pilots that died on 9/11 when it crashed into the WTC. So yes, some are getting hired. I'm glad they did that for him.

I'm not saying to not to chase upgrade's but it's how you go about it. Voting for a pay cut for expansion is what is going on right now at PSA/Piedmont/Envoy soon I bet, and that is what makes guys backstabbers. Places like GoJets, and if you remember, Freedom Airlines. I was here. I remember guys saying exactly what you just said above. At the cost of other pilots just so they could get their quick upgrade and bypass the normal wait time by moving up the list. So come here, get your hours, move up in seniority, upgrade, but just remember when you can vote, to vote for a better contract, and don't sell the place to get what you needed. That makes you a backstabber. This is why the regional suck so bad now.
