So, if someone with 1000 hours 121 time was hired by the end of this year, what would be their upgrade time frame?

Most carriers have a matching program. Say the carrier requires 4500 hours in order to be PIC. They may match your time to say, 1500 hours so in reality, you would need only 3000 ACTUAL hours before an upgrade. If you have over that AND 1000 hours of 121 time, I would say your upgrade would be pretty quick at the right airline.

Bases are closing, others are opening. That matters because one person may be able to hold say IAD CRJ CA but not DFW CRJ CA.
E175 is staying a bit more senior.
Most junior CRJ CA is #613 on the last (2013 hire.)
Most junior E175 CA is #526 on the list.

It's too fluid of a situation to say at this point.

Hey 121, did they bust the seat lock for CA's on the 900?

The best/worst show in aviation. Its where one gets to demonstrate their skills for the better or worse. The real job is like a game of 52 pickup, organizational skills are tested on every leg, some do an outstanding job and some flounder when the script gets mixed up. Most do just fine.
Again, would love to understand this before my 1st 121 class. Thanks!

Very interesting! As a simple CFI, why is flying a visual approach on a jet so complicated? Can you treat it as a regular approach using the FD and auto pilot? Or do you usually hand fly the whole approach on raw data.

You have about 30-40 seconds to slow the plane, figure out where the runway is, configure the aircraft and descend safely to the runway at that speed.
Just wait, you'll see. It's amazing how fast stuff happens in the 121 world when all you have is piston/turboprop experience.
I have almost 2000hrs of 121 and I find myself on night visual outstation approaches still uh, "sitting up straight in my seat." If you get what I mean.
That is with the CRJ. The EJET is pretty darn easy. Throw in the 175s VNAV capabilities and autothrottles and visuals are a piece of cake.
