In my opinion, I think it looks ridiculous on airline pilots. I'm not an USAF/USN pilot nor do I want to look like one. There is a lot of heritage and history surrounding those and I PERSONALLY don't think it's appropriate for us to wear them.
I also think it is ridiculous to spend that kind of money on a jacket at the regional airlines. Get the suit jacket or the overcoat.

The leather jacket
I was at Mesa 2003-2008. I bought the SWA style jacket (Mesa did not really care at least not then) I would make the joke "Its the Southwest jacket if I can't have a good job I can dress like I have one". It is warm, it still looks good after being pulled from an overhead bin after a commute and you can pull the wings, name tag and eppilets off and wear it on the overnights. BTW I went to Air Tran, I cross over to SWA in Sept. and I still have the jacket. If you can afford it its great and practical.

I'll also add it's more of a West Coast thing. You'll look silly wearing a fighter pilot jacket around Dulles.

October 15 class for me. Looking forward to it. How smooth has the EJET training been going? Any delays to get into the sim? Curious to know if there's a wait between ground school and sim.
Anybody have any advice going into all this? Other than accepting the class date offer, haven't gotten too much info yet on what to expect.

Nothing wrong with pilots wearing a leather jacket if they so choose to. It is perfectly acceptable.

I opted for the blazer since I was planning on being stuck in ORD all winter and I could wear the overcoat with it. Now that I'm PHX based next month I'm thinking of getting a leather jacket just for the practical use of it on overnights and the low maintenance aspect.

Right. Because we have so many flights to Newark.
Nothing wrong with the leather jacket. It's warm with the liner and practical nine months or so out of the year. Take off the epps and wings and it's a MultiFunction Device.
