I understand for base assignments it's first come first served but for equipment most companies will give you some kind of say.

I have been offered a future (summer) CRJ class date via airlineapps however I am wanting the IAH base. Will I have an opportunity to make this known to the powers that be at some point? I don't want to badger them with phone calls and emails but I'm hoping there will be a chance to state my preference before I start class.
If you tell Mesa you hate Houston and that E175 is a piece of crap you should get awarded both.

Truthfully though I don't think anyone has been offered a EMB class date in the future. If someone can verify this. So I think all offers are for the CRJ even though some folks will go to the EMB.

You say you have a class offer via airlineapps... How does that work? Certainly, at some point, they will have to reach out to you via a phone call to firm up your start date, right? This might be your one opportunity to defer to a later, and hopefully 175, class. Express this preference when they call. Otherwise, your only choice is to try to call them ASAP, but from what I hear, they don't answer calls, do they? And even if you successfully get penciled in for a later date, there is no guarantee they wont file you into a CRJ class the day you show, along with all other 19 guys expecting the 175. Not saying that is likely, but it happens. Just so you're not naive about it.

All this said, I have spoken with one individual privately on this board, I wont tell you who, that was given the choice of either a sooner CRJ class, or a later 175 class. Of course everything I just said also applies to him. I'm not sure of the details on how he was to go about letting them know what he decides.

Best advise, just try your hardest to call them. Its only your life. If bothering them causes them to round-file your job offer, well did you really want to work at a place that vindictive and fickle anyway? Don't expect them to honor your request however. It may end up a take it or leave it type of deal, and for that I can't necessarily blame them, can you?

Interestingly, I had a similar concern when I was hired. I was able to talk with the recruiter. I was 'rightfully' told... You will take what you get and like it boy!. But then a foreign student's paperwork was incomplete and I got called 18 hours before start, to show as an alternate. I was ecstatic!!! My girlfriend was in that class, who cares what the airplane or base was!!!!

Ok, fine... before someone beats me to it and calls me out...

She wasn't my girlfriend, she was a love interest, and by all definitions I was stalking her

But hey, we're happily married over 7 years now, so all's well that ends well!!!

TMI - I know.

I disagree. Line guarantee is what we had at RAH. They will pay you 75 hours. If you have an 85hour line. And 15 hours cancelled. They will pay you the 75hours, which is what the line guarantee is per the contract.

Cancellation pay specifically says you will be paid for your original line, not an arbitrary number. I.e. 75hrs

I don't know about that. The recruiters are good guys. I'm willing to bet they'll work with you if you really want a 175 class.

Does that mean there are EMB classes on the books now?

Not at all. That is purely a bait tactic for the SJS pilot. So now to be hired, not only does MAG make it easy for the wannabe airlinepilot but they dangle the emb175 slot in your face to keep you on the line. Oh boy, here come the masses!!!!

The union nor management have stated/slated any training slots beyond the initial cadre of pilots. The Initial Cadre (Check Airman etc.) kicked off this month. MAG does not even have a UAX embraer on property yet.

But sure guys keep holding on ... While your chances for seniority plummet and you get "bait and switched" to the CRJ.

Someone correct me if I am wrong?

Predictions:
EMB175s + CRJ900s + Easy to be hired at = plenty of pilots
(MAG doubles RAH in attracting new hires due to no Q400 nor ERJs)
Masses of new hire pilots provide zero leverage for Labor to negotiate any contractual gains. MAG stays as crap as ever, same said pilots b*tch and jump at first JetBlue, Allegiant or Spirit Offer. MAG again tanks in performance and loses UAX flying ...and the cycle of 2006-08 continues. JO buys latest Maserati.
