Mesa to add 9 900s
#21
I've moved on from Mesa but have enough friends there to be glad when a non-union group is unable to poach more of their flying.
Tough talk from someone whose 70/90 seat rates are BELOW the PCL CA TA rates. Pull your head out of your ass, and realize that you aren't exactly raising the bar yourself.
As a part of a pilot group currently in negotiations, I sure wish we were looking up to you guys, not down.
Good luck with your "employee policies" and your committee that you call a union.
Clown.

I didn't start the "tough talk".
You are a blatant liar, and you're doing a disservice to the entire industry when you intentionally fabricate non-existant "benefits" to union membership. Case in point: SKW rates are higher than PCL rates. And that's before you add in any work rule factors, performance bonuses...or subtract 2% for dues.
Oh BTW, I voted yes on the last alpa drive (very, very reluctantly). Airline unions in general, and ALPA specifically are severely under-performing relative to what their members expect and what they themselves advertise. Mindless distortion and fabrication of the facts in order to prop up the union facade only perpetuates what they can get away with. Try holding them accountable for a change, maybe we'd all be better off. The MESA MEC has historically been the poster child for what's wrong with pilot unions.
Better look hard in the mirror before you call people names. Clown indeed.

Can someone tell me who this troll works for? He is oblivious and void of any business sense.

Am I missing something? According to the pay rates on APC SkyWest's CA pay is equal to or better than Pinnacle for the same equipment and longevity. FO is the same with the exception of first year pay at SKW. But don't let facts stand in the way of a good argument.
Having flown for both, I know where I'd rather be, and it isn't the ALPA carrier.

Fact remains, SKW doesn't lead the industry in compensation. Keep patting yourself on the back for being paid more than pilots who just signed a concessionary bankruptcy contract.

As I pointed out above, I referenced the wrong set of SKW pay rates. But you're right, I should give you more credit for being paid a buck more than a pilot group who had their contract gutted in bankruptcy.
Sorry to call your employee policy manual and "association" into question, but I don't think either are worth a damn.
Good luck to you guys over there. Rough times are sure to be ahead given the amount of 50-seaters you operate.

I'm an ex-Mesa guy. I have to add that they had some of the nicest crews to fly with (I'm sure other current/ex-Mesa guys will agree for sure).
The union at Mesa though..... What union? (if you can read between the lines). Pansies. Needed them on one occasion and they did nothing. I had to defend myself - and did so successfully. Union acted as bystanders. Each man for himself when it comes to the crunch.
"Ask not what your Union can do for you but what can you do for your Union".........
Well those 'real' unions died a long time ago. I don't believe in these modern day 'magazine printing, ipad app making unions'. I along side many others paid/pay their financial dues to these people for a monthly (or was it quarterly) glossy magazine. What a joke.
So thump your chest hard you Union chest beaters...... BEAT IT HARD!

Funny thing is if SKW continues to lose bids where do you think the cuts are coming from? Do they have to get permission to cut pay or raise health insurance etc? SKW has now successfully lost an AA deal to RAH and Q400s from UAL to RAH, a DAL deal to Gojets and a USairways deal to MESA.......
NOT a rocket scientist but that seems like SKW is starting to price themselves right out of the market..... Only time will tell but a huge fleet of crj200s wouldn't make me feel too certain...... I.e. DAL and Comair and now Pinnacle....

9 airplanes is child's play. Skywest isn't going to open a CLT base for 9 airplanes. There are still 100s worth of aircraft up for bid between UAL, Airways and AMR, and Skywest is in a very good position.
Now for your list of SKYW deals lost:
1. AMR 175s: SKYW couldn't add a 175 type by June of this year and contractually cannot open an ORD base for any other carrier other than United. Look for Skywest to win the next AMR RFP for MIA flying
2. UAL Q400: Skywest wanted nothing to do with the Q400
3. GoJet 12 CRJ 700s: Yup, we straight up lost that one. Skywest is at a big disadvantage when Mainline owns the planes and can't use its excellent credit rating to reduce cost by obtaining superior financing for plane purchases. Couple months later we got 34 700/900s in exchange for 66 CR2s,of which 23 were placed with AMR. So by my count that's 2 RFPs won.
IE Comair and Pinnacle?!? not even close. Comair was wholly owned and at the mercy of Delta. Pinnacle went bankrupt bidding RFPs below cost.

Hmmm no one said Expressjet son...... Simmer child....
Your pay, insurance, 401k etc are secure because you have a contract and union..... There's a lot of discussion on SKW and what could happen with escalating cost...... Lifers, higher pay, etc at a regional level in todays market compared to a Gojets, Compass (low longevity), etc put those like SKW into a corner with no contract to keep it secured......

I've been pretty damn disappointed in what my union has done for me lately. But I'll never be mad at the protection my $ pays for each month. I've needed the lawyers once, and am glad to know they are there for me at no real cost whenever needed.
