Understood. Just curious if the limited amount of flying while on reserve is the norm? I remember seeing posts of people barely flying 200 hours while on reserve this past year. Is that normal or is that a new issue because of the captain to first officer ratio?

It’s new because of the ratio you talked about. Last summer, FO’s on reserve were flying pretty much everyday.

There are people on reserve for a year and still can't hold a line yet. It will take a long time. I don't know how May pairings will look like since I won't be in the company anymore. But the rumors are Mesa will have 100% been transitioned to United by then and there will be a "ton of pairings, line awards, and flying for FOs" and people might finally get a line in May. Who knows how true that is though, because it's been said just about every month, and every month the pairings were a disappointment. March (this month) and April (next month) is by far the worst, and people who regularly held a line, are on reserve.

I've heard from Co workers people not flying the jet for weeks at a time, and going back to the cockpit to become rusty as hell. They'll probably need extra Sims in recurrent.

Its highly market depending. It's not only a Mesa problem where FOs aren't flying. It's a national regional problem. It's an issue that popped up the past year due to having no captains. The reason for that is because all the captain's go to legacies or LCC/ACMI. It will continue being like this for the coming years. As long as frontier/spirit/southwest/jetblue/omni/abx/ups/kailita/ATI/whatever is still hiring, everyone will leave the regionals to go there.

There is better job security/stability /QOL /contract/pay/base selection/maintenance in just about all LCC/acmi. Not to mention the small things like food in flight, and better hotels.

All of them are taking you in at 1500 atp mins now. So I'd highly recommend applying there and taking the CJO if offered.

Seems like forced upgrades are on the horizon

Might as well go to endeavor. Contractual guaranteed flow to Delta. 100k+ DEC bonus. Same exact plane.

Or gojet and also snag $110k+ Dec sign on bonus. Same plane.

Once/if that happens, those eligible fo/CA will leave to greener pastures asap

Or just skip all that and get a better QOL at a major. The above only should apply if you interview horribly and/ or have 5 failed checkrides. Get out of the regionals ASAP is the name of the game

Use aviationinterviews dot com for interviews and you'll be golden. As for checkride fails, even that won't stop you from going to endeavor or gojet. They are bleeding for captains. And the stigma against checkride fails is becoming less and less hurting, it's not 10 years ago anymore. But I agree. Very much go to jetblue or whatever over another regional.

GoJet just extended their FO classes until the end of the summer. I doubt Mesa is in a better spot. But that should give you an idea. It is subject to further extension as well past that, so dont hold your breath.
