United has no cheaper operator to take over the flying for Mesa. And United needs whatever regional lift they can scrape together at this point in time.
A poor reliability record is a significant expense. My commute for example involves Mesa CRJ-900's and I usually need to plan a 3rd option or buy a ticket on SkyWest since the odds of a -900 being hours late or cancelled due to maintenance or waiting on a crew is significant. I'm to the point of being shocked when one is actually on time. Rerouting passengers, refunds, cancellations, etc add significant cost. I can definitely see where UAL would shift assets to more reliable regionals such as SkyWest and Republic. Considering Mesa's performance, shifting the flying to more reliable regionals could very well be the cheaper option.

Why not just have mainline pick up the slack? What a great opportunity for the unions to get what they have always wanted. They have plenty of crews and planes sitting around they need something to do with, right?

And put all their regional eggs in a "premium" basket with Skywest and Republic? I am sure United is leveraging Mesa's performance problems to their (UAL's) advantage. What better reason to go back and ask for concessions from Mesa? I don't think United has carried Mesa this far just to leave them on the side of the road. The accountants can figure out creative ways to write off those "losses".

Have you been blind for the last 2/3 years. UA hasn’t shifted quite a bit of flying back to mainline. My last 3 day trip on the 737 was to all former RJ stations I visited while at Xjet.

Next we would have shifted more flying to mainline if it wasn’t for the delivery delays from Boeing/Airbus. Multiple times Kirby/Quayle stated the goal was to have less then 150 RJ’s in the UA system

I think that you're giving them too much credit. When it comes to regional feed, UAL is more about putting out fires than long term planning. They will do what is good for them at the time to put out the biggest fire and worry about the rest later.

Unless it's changed from my days at Mesa, it was required that we make an announcement that included the mention of it being, American Eagle or United Express flight "PROUDLY OPERATED BY MESA AIRLINES." So, they're just doing their proper announcement.

That's terrible there are furloughs coming; hopefully those guys get on somewhere and quickly.
I heard there was a downgrade recently but maybe that was performance based and not a staffing need ?

Not really surprised that he's front and center for your current woes.

Anybody who has any experience in the industry knows furloughs first hand. It's never easy.

Don't know how long ago you flew, but it's only "suggested" not "required" . It's still cringe asf.

No it isn’t. In fact it’s important people not be misled.

Lotter resurfaced.
