CommuteAir and Mesa both shut down DEN to make way for Skywest, and now CommuteAir is taking over a lot of Mesa routes in IAD. I have to imagine there were enough routes that could be serviced by 50 seaters that United decided they would rather have flying done by C5 pilots paid $73/hour than YX pilots paid $100/hr. Mesa realizes that they're overstaffed and are correcting for it

Just my guess, anyhow. Really sucks for all involved

Mesa is YV, Republic is YX. Either way United doesn't care about $25 per hour. They are probably scoped out on larger regional jets though and now that hiring has slowed C5 and other 50 seat only operators can staff again.

I'm sorry to hear this news. I've been furloughed before so I have extreme sympathy.

Anyone know starting what class date the furloughs are to happen? How can the company announce this and not even release a list of names and keep everyone in the dark. Messed up.

Pretty sure it’s the NH classes from 9/23 or 10/23 to 2/24. There’s been a perpetual wait for IOE so I’m surprised they even kept us around this long. I got the letter so I’m assuming if you didn’t you’re in the clear.

Well there's people who've been on property for 2 years and still got the letter. So I. Not sure that has anything to do with it. If you mean the letter by Andrew lotter

On a side note... How long is the wait for IOE ejet? I thought there were no delays.

There were 2 letters from Lotter. One was the pilot information letter which I assumed went out to everyone (at least I thought). The other was the actual furlough notice which myself and the other unfortunate 53 received.

It was an indefinite wait for us newhires, priority was on the transitions and DECs. For perspective, I know people who did their type ride in January and still haven’t been released to IOE let alone return to the schoolhouse to get re-qual’d. I was told late next month/august for a return but I guess that’s now moot. No drastic IOE delays for transitions that I know of.

I see. The two letter thing makes sense now.

And the transition thing makes sense now as well, since I heard from a crj>EJET guy that there were absolutely no delays. Which makes sense since he isn't a new hire.

Anyway thanks for that info

Can yall stop saying "thank you for flying MESA AIRLINES" during the boarding announcement. No one knows what Mesa airlines is and no one really cares. And it's kinda cringy. I overheard passenegers in the back saying "are we on the right flight We booked a UA flight"

Not really a valid comparison. United cut ExpressJet loose because CommutAir was a cheaper operator and ready (or so they thought) to take over the ExpressJet flying.

United has no cheaper operator to take over the flying for Mesa. And United needs whatever regional lift they can scrape together at this point in time.
