I didn’t see anything in the article that indicated SkyWest & Republic were parking jets to allow Mesa’s CRJ’s to fly, in that article. I will say Mesa & Republic both already had jets parked due to lack of staffing. SkyWest doesn’t have any parked.

What do you think the odds are they don't stay there very long and go elsewhere?

What is the real deal here? Is Mesa taking less profit than SK or RP? Is The deal in aircraft acquisition costs? I don’t see how this is beneficial to United although it must be or they wouldn’t be doing it.

Operating costs between the 2 types are reported to be only a couple of hundred dollars/hour different. With the customer satisfaction rating being much higher on the 175.

What am I missing?

I think it’s smoke and mirrors. They’re going to be “finalizing” the deal until the beginning of April so it prevents Mesa from having people bail for Envoy. A large number of their pilots live in base. If they think they will have the same amount of United flying in PHX/DFW that they had for AA, they’re going to be disappointed. These bases will shrink dramatically. Why would UA park 38 175s for a much less desirable CRJ? Can you really trust an airline CEO? Especially JO to be 100% honest and transparent?

This is all about staffing. Nothing worse then when they have to pull down block hours each month do to staffing. So setting a easy number CRJ900’s to staff and pair down some E175’s allows UA to plan summer block hours and sell tix’s and no fear of clx’ing flights..

correct. It’s is the least bad options amongst bad choices.

this can only be a bandaid until the 175 are fully staffed.

I’m willing to bet Mesa will be flying UA pax in a bird painted in AA colors with United Express spray painted on the side .If this is temporary, JO isn’t going to pay for the paint jobs , he will pocket the cash SK gives him for it .

SK is doing business with a convicted felon and known drug addict. As others have said already, he probably knows this type of sleazy behavior is imminent. SK must really need those clapped out RJ’s flying to maximize the United connection flying I guess… 🤷‍♂️
