Why, how does the United transition affect line-holding?
Before the United transition, how long did it take to hold a line as a crj FO in dfw?
Because I've heard people half a year since hire date and still don't hold a line?

There’s a 2 month wait to ioe. 3 months of training average so 6 months to line holder doesn’t seem too bad. Jr line holder is a sept 22 hire though but to reliably hold a line in dfw it’s about a year from hire date. Phx - line holder first bid off ioe. It’s a misleading number though as bases change size, flying shifts etc. With the transition to UA it may be longer or it may be shorter. Depends on base and how fast things happen.

There is no forced upgrades clause in the pilot contract, and Piedmont survived without having forced upgrades very well. So I'm not sure why Mesa would need it.... Forcing people to upgrade when they may not be ready to do so, or just don't want to.

Why does management think it's bad? And what are the pros and cons of it?

Thanks, GimliGlider. After you mentioned this I checked out some of the ULCC websites and noticed an increasing number of 'requirements' are sliding into the preferred category. I'm above ATP mins but don't have the license and am low on multi and turbine. So likely a regional for a bit for me.

Just an example from the Frontier website for those looking at options:
------------
HOURS
1500 hours total time (2500 preferred)
750 hours multi-engine fixed wing
500 hours pilot in command (PIC)
500 hours jet/turbo-prop
------------

For the upgrade hesitant FOs. Forced upgrades are coming. You may be forced into an aircraft different than your current platform. Success rate on that is slim. Best to bid upgrade asap. More ca is more flying and less reserve.
