Default ALPA files for DL/NWA Single carrier

Any of you guys heard about this?

Labor tensions rise after Delta-Northwest merger | ajc.com
The Air Line Pilots Association and Delta Air Lines have submitted federal filings that are sparking labor conflict just days after Delta closed its merger with Northwest Airlines. The pilots union submitted an application to the National Mediation Board seeking a determination that Delta and Northwest make up a single carrier. Delta agreed with that request in its own filing.

If the National Mediation Board determines that Delta and Northwest are a single carrier across the company, as Delta contends, unions would have 14 days to show interest from at least 35 percent of employees in a craft or class to trigger union representation elections. Northwest is highly unionized, but at Delta, pilots were the only major unionized group.

It's to resolve the issue between the union employees of NW and the non-union DL ones. It doesn't affect the pilots.

If it doesn't affect pilot groups, then why did ALPA file it?

Maybe as the only union on the property, ALPA did it to lend weight to management's request to the NMB.

This is a required filing to officially join DALPA and NALPA as a single bargaining agent. I'm guessing it has nothing to do with discord as the AJC says.

Okay I found out why there is discord. I guess ALPA opened the door with this filing that if the NMB rules that Delta and NWA are a single carrier across the company, the other unions can begin organizing campaigns to include all NWA and Delta employees.

That has always been the plan.
