SLI negotiations have broke down
#2
Somehow after how close we were a few weeks ago and did not get it negotiated, I am not surprised.
That is OK. It makes it better in the long run. We can hate the arbitrators and will save us the end fighting that would have resulted from something we actually had to take responsibility of.

Game not over
All of the good reasons for a negotiated list still apply. The arbs slipping their deadline by a month merely reduced the pressure to make a deal now.
The clock has been reset, giving both teams enough time to run a few more plays instead of settling for a tie....and in negotiations, walking away from the table is a very routine play.

Don't get in the referee's face
Officially? I don't know. But it would seem foolhardy for one side to refuse the arbitrators' request for more time. Their response might be: "Oh, you demand an immediate decision, eh? We'll give you one all right!"

If history is any guide, you are wrong -- we will hate each other forever. Just ask ANY green book or red book guy. Arbitration is absolutely the worst thing that can happen. But it shouldn't surprise me. NWALPA is 0 for 26 in their last 26 attempts at a negotiated settlement; DAL is 2 for 2.
