Management considers it a viable replacement and ordered about 500 of them to take out the old 737's and 727's. Compass's E190/175's were ordered back in 2005 (I think) and are being delivered as we speak. MidWest just did a deal to secure Frontier's E170's which will be filled with Delta/NWA passengers under codeshare.

Hope you don't think I'm busting on you. You are standing for what a lot of pilots are thinking and I'm trying to present the worldview from management's perspective.

I agree passengers like the DC9's better. My wife likes the MD88 better than the 757 (no middle seat). It is a great design, it just burns way too much gas.

You and I can agree that the DC9 will be around until management gets an airplane to replace it. We just disagree over the level of threat the RJ poses to our pilots' careers.

In other news, if they backfill a half dozen MD88A seats in NYC, a 2007 hire will be a Delta Captain.

Heck I know lots of DCI CA's that make well over 100K a year. With our duty regs and work rules, it would be a decent living.
For the life of me I cannot see why guys are willing to give their safety net away.
The whole "You can't compensate for a small penis by driving a big truck" mentality. My wife says it simply, she doesn't care how big or small it is just how big the paycheck it is.

Bucking Bar, I'd love to see it but find that hard to believe. Would you please explain to this new hire how this might pan out.

Just go into e-crew, or i-crew, and look at how many pilots have selected M88A JFK as their bid choice ahead of you.

I imagine that easily a dozen M88A's would bail at the first opportunity, which will be here if they backfill for the 777.

Besides, wouldn't "a year and a half to Delta Captain" make an interesting thread before the SLI? Hope someone is crazy enough to bid it.

Well, think of the Mid Ex deal this way, before you were code sharing on 717s now it's on RJs. While the Mid Ex code share is bad for you, at least there are now fewer seats to be sold. Of course for the Mid Ex pilot it's a much worse deal.

=)

They can have it. There is no way that I'd bid to be the junior CA in NYC on the 88. Talk about QOL taking a hit.

We got us a couple of new hire, in their 20's types. Throw in a few of those new hire FA's (ER guys have no idea what I'm talking about ), some Song trips to Florida . . . . I can think of worse ways to make six figures your second year on the job.

I'm an mid-time married guy, so I just listen to the stories

I know of two guys that were in my class that live in the area that have it bid. We will see if they get it this time around.
