If the list is to be truly "dynamic" it has to take the bad with the good.
I would rather take my chances as a stand alone carrier than do this merger because I think that we will be back at the table giving up pay and other things trying to save this giant company.

NWA cash position better than Delta. Nwa cost structure much better than Delta. First Quarter loss at NWA much smaller than Delta.

In 1987 I was told that nwa would not be around in 2 years and that we would be gobbled up by American. This came straight out of the mouth of Crandall. I think he was wrong. We are still here and American is looking at the possiblilty of BK and not doing so well. Funny how things work out. I still remind my American buddies of this today.

Again good luck to us all!!!

That's all well and good, but guess what... it ain't gonna happen. This merger, barring DOJ or any other government meddling, is going to go thru. Yes, we may all be better off if it didn't, but that's a fantasy and denial is just a river. The thing we all need to do is make this the best deal for ALL OF US that we can make. Like being on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, we'd best keep our collective heads on a swivel, lest we be blown overboard.

I'm out of metaphors...

Not giddy at all. I can fly 757 capt at 142 an hour over here. Your 757-767 rate is 155. So $12 per hour x 75 hours is $900 bucks after taxes and crap mabe 475 take home. I am really excited about that-- no way!!!!! That will give me quality of life- not hardly! And where is the guarantee that the pay will stay there. Quality of life comes from senority not pay.

I think what this merger brings is more than a measly 12 bucks an hour pay raise. If mgmt doesn't screw things too badly, it will bring a much better long term prospect for all of us on board. And believe it or not, it will transfer into better QOL that you so treasure.

So, you feel that you will be better off flying as a junior whale captain than as a line holding 757/767 captain at DAL, is that correct? Now please explain to me how you will have better quality of life under that scenerio..

Man I hope and pray that you are right but I for one am not sticking my head in the sand. Being aroud this business for 23 years we are just a number to the company and the company will do what the company will do without regards to the needs of a number. I think that this merger will put more people on the streets than we can imagine in time. Right now a pretty picture is being painted so that it will go through. Then that picture will be taken down off the wall and be thrown in the trash. Then the ugly picture will emerge. I hope that I am wrong.

Also the 9s woudl probably be parked in time but there may well have been a replacement for this to, but these 2 companies have been planning this merger for some time.
You might want to visit the SEC website (you can download at Edgar or on NWA.com under investor relations). You'll see that there are 3 of the 742's being parked, plus the announcement of additional -9's being parked, 2 of which are in June. Here's a link to the press release:

I would assume that you would consider these as "facts."

As did AMR, UAL, CAL, and SWA. In case you didn't notice a few airlines (Aloha, ATA, Champion, Skybus, EOS, MaxJet) liquidated during that time, and Frontier went into Chapter 11. But I'm sure the capacity pulldown by DAL and NWA, which takes effect at least 6 months before there's a corporate transaction, was just merger related....

Of course you'd say that's fair. You want all the upside your retirement attrition brings (and at age 60 vice 65), but none of the downside airframe attrition risk you bring. Also, it's the managers that want the merger, not me.

Its called max pay for min time away from home. One 13 day trip and your done then 18 to 30 days off depending on when you bid your next trip.

I don't call 1 nwa guy and 1 delta guy not taking any of the down side risk how do you figure that formula takes none of the downside attrition risk. we are bringing that risk because your management made the decision to merger, not us.

How would it affect you to put 1500 nwa guys in front of you that were both junior to you date of hire and younger than you? What would that do to your progression up the seniority ladder? and lets see you only have 8 years left to fly because I plan to get out at 60.
