It depends on what the definition of "is" is, as well as binding arbitration being binding.

Of course, we're the bigger group, so if we don't like the results, we can hold our breath, stamp our feet, and take our ball home.

(I really am just kidding, NWA guys)

Does anyone know if the SLI is the only thing we can negotiate? Buy that I mean if we agree to one can we make it contingent on the company being required to adopt the Delta pay rates for the comparable Northwest equipment, ie 747-777, 330-767, M88-DC9. It seems to me that may go a long way towards making the NWA guys happier and not feeling like they operate on a B-scale? I'm asking because I have no idea how much negotiating power the MEC's have in this situation. Hopefully we can work together and not against each other.

Now we have some time to accomplish the joint contract. The goal is the new contract will build further off of LOA 19.

We must come together on this. A US/AWA debacle cannot be repeated. Plus, look at the demographics, there is not much difference in much of either population.
I think you kind of just made my point on some level. if the deal was that important for the survival of delta (and nwa), than it seems like delta had the power to help out nwa as well.

like you said at $145 (hope it actually doesn't come to that) it could come down to the last man standing and what incentive is there to get a joint contract that would bring nwa up. I just don't see there being any unless it goes via the typical route which wouldn't be good for either party since they would now be 1.

I think once the SLI is worked out, we can negotiate a joint contract, which will supercede, and hopefully improve upon the LOA that DALPA just agreed to.

you may be joking but I think there is a lot of truth to your statement.

I've been part of situations where pilots have been devided into multiple groups and the ones in the best situation didn't want to rock the boat which could hurt their better standing.

I get that, I was just wondering about bringing them up for the interim period while we negotiate that joint contract.

Wouldn't that be up to the NWA MEC? I guess they would have to swallow their pride, and actually work with management though.... but I get the impression that for some reason, that is a bad thing..

why would nwa management do this? just like your LOA, it only takes effect if you actually merge, so do they negociate with delta management?

according to my buddy at nwa he was told they did approach RA and were basically brushed aside.

Chuck,

considering that the two airlines are not legally merged yet, I don't think Delta management has a say right now on the NWA pilots pay and benefits. They are still employed by Nwa. I beleive it will take 6-8 months to close the deal, if all goes smooth.

Then your buddy told you wrong. Anderson and Bastian met with the NWA MEC administration on Sunday, two days before the event. They were told over two weeks ago that the "deadline" for doing a pre-nuptial deal was passing.
