You are absolutely correct. No denying that. Have you seen the T & Cs of their "contract"? I haven't, and probably most haven't. Don't you think they (work rules) will come if the pilots are getting abused? And if they continue to be abused, the union will be there? But again, this is an airline that hasn't turned the first wheel, and it's being thrown under the bus. What were the workrules at FedEx when they were flying Falcons? How long did it take FedEx to get a union? I don't know the answers, but they were a startup at one point, too.

OBTW, rigs=work rules for the most part.

That's just it... we need another LCC with foreign control in this country like we need an oil price spike... so why give them a break? If they're going to come in and hire pilots at below normal wages.. (and I don't care what you say, their captains, whether year 1 or not, will make far less per hour than US Air, UAL and others), then they'll be exerting downward pressure on the system wide wage scale, and at the same time exerting pressure on more productivity as YOU KNOW they will not have the same work rules.. you just KNOW that.

Forgive me, but I have to say it.. I hope VA flops, and if not I hope WN smashes them.

Well CE750, the DOT disagrees with your assumption of foreign control, and they have had plenty of pressure to give this application a very close review.

As for flopping, may happen, may not. At least that decision on that will be made in the market place. I personally think WN has UAL's domestic revenue in it's sights with entry to IAD, DEN & now SFO. VX will be small enough and nimble enough to sidestep head to head with WN for quite a while.

Default DOT reality

shrek

the reality is....not only does the DOT care less about YOUR profession's interests, neither does the flying public, management, or even your fellow pilots.

the industry has become a melting pot of a bunch of ME MYSELF and I's.

Get mine now and screw everyone else....

that is the grim reality....

so go fly ur jet cartoon boy and hold down the fort in your small little world...and by the way, perhaps you might try to enjoy it the best you can why it passes you by.....

cheers

It was odd to say the least to see all those 320's sitting on the ramp and other areas at SFO coming in yesterday... seems like a BIG waste of money.

And REALLY.. do we need another LCC? Really?

Default ???

sure Shrek...with 200 mil start up capitol, you can do that...

do we need another LCC??? noboby really cares what a PILOT thinks anyhow....

Look at the market share. Listen to what the PAX are saying. They are sick of the legacies. They are excited about new entrants to the market. SWA is gobbling up over 33% of the market as we speak. Room for another?? You can bet your MD11 there is.

The travelling public does not give a flying fart about protecting pilot jobs and salaries. They want a good fare, entertainment, and a pleasant looking gal to serve them a drink. When was the last time you got that on a legacy? I rode a legacy the other day on a MD80 from ORD to California. The pax around me were miserable. The FA's tail end was so big, she had to turn sideways to get down the isle, plus she looked like she had not washed her hair in two months. No inflight entertainmnet and a $5 pile of garbage they called a lunch snack. Not even a reach around for crying out loud!!!!!!!

Reality sucks.

true of the masses, but certainly should not be true of the members of this forum.

again, agree.. but then does this mean we should feel the same way? or should we use the muscle of our unions to "Give a fart" about our profession and it's future?

They want a good fare, entertainment, and a pleasant looking gal to serve them a drink. When was the last time you got that on a legacy?
hit and miss.. I've seen some of the ugliest F/A's and spermfest crews on SWA and JB so LCC's aren't exempt from the haggage factor.. I've also paid less on USair to go to most places that I would pay on most other airlines.. LCC or otherwise..

I think LCC are like the .com thing... a fad... WN will have staying power, and the rest will just come and go.

Default haggage??

haggage...that was funny....

you know, you are right,,,however I read today that AA was giving domestic routes to the regionals because they can't compete with LCC's.

So you all have been right on about the impact of LCC's.........
