I completely agree. I was just saying if someone finishes a single beer 8 hrs before they arrive at the airport property they are legal and will be 0%. Now finishing number 12 with 8 hrs to show you're stupid lol. In this case we know nothing of any facts other than they've been accused. It's just a pet peeve of mine when people state things as fact when we have a manual that states something different.

Agreed, I have no problem with 8 hours but like you said if you slam some beers to make it the 8 hours you will have a problem. But as said earlier we don't know what happened, they could have been right at .02 who knows

The elephant isn't about being "legal" according to the FOM it's about not having alcohol in your blood when the pilot steps into the airport and begins their fiduciary duties.
When I started the FOM had a 24 hour rule and yet occasionally there were problems. BTW the 24 rule was eliminated when a scab was turned in on an international trip by a striker.
The point is there's enough time to enjoy an adult beverage or two and yet these two, out of how many others, were nailed. The problem isn't the UK, the 12 or 8 hour rules it's the pilot who made a bad choice. We need to make sure it's not me. But of course after several pints and a night cap at the bar before turning in, me probably won't consider the consequences.
Now how can we make the elephant leave? Rules certainly don't seem to phase it.

Yes, that behavior is bad form, and will likely lead to bad results. But we don't know that these two pilots are culpable. A dose of Listerine or even a cough drop can give a false positive reading.
So yeah, don't drink too close to show time. Don't drink to excess on your layover. And don't go to Britain, if you can possibly help it.

I have flown with a couple guys on the 777 who have flown with Queen Hillary when they were on the 757 (AF2)... she is a work of art apparently and treats the "help" like crap.
