TSA Cuts Causing Delays And Missed Flights

All the talk recently of needing to hire more screeners drives me nuts. My wife and I were going through ATL security about a week before they shut down the south checkpoint (which, as you've heard, is now causing 3+ hour delays). We showed up at 0415 for a 0600 flight - I thought "plenty early, we'll have time for Popeyes and a coffee". They had the entire middle section of belts shut down, and were only running the side lines. The security line was out to the atrium at 0415, and it took us 1:30 to get through. Only time I've ever had to run to beat the closing cabin door. What drove me nuts, and was obvious to everyone in line, was the 8-10 TSA workers standing around shooting the shizz at the desk in the middle of the security area doing absolutely nothing the entire time we were in line. More screeners is not the solution.

The whole pre-check seems stupid. For example, I have 1 million+ points at two hotel chains, 300,000+ miles st two airlines, a passport with a gazillion stamps and 48 (of is it 72?) pages. Held a top secret clearance for 30 years. One would think I wouldn't need to prove my eligibility for pre-check. In today's world, all those records should be available to TSA and no-cost, low threat security checks done. I know there are, no doubt, thousands, maybe several million, traveler's with similar profiles.

This is my conspiracy theory:
Sounds to me like they are trying to make security as miserable as possible to get travelers to sign up for pre check. Apparently there is not enough demand for the program so maybe they are trying to sway some more to pay that little extra tax for pre check. At least that's what I thought by reading in between the lines of the first paragraph of the OPs article.

TSA has caused chaos to make passengers miserable so that passengers will sign up for Pre-Check. Not only to get your money, but the most important thing is to create a huge much more detailed database.
I haven't heard any airline executive complain about the loss of revenue.

National Database, easy peasy.

Ah yes, so they can come and take your guns, enslave you, send your kids to indoctrination camps, and have sex with your wife. I knew it... Thanks OBAMA!!!

And the TSA was founded by which president?
Representing which political party; that alleges to stand for smaller government, less bureaucracy, and more individual privacy rights?

P.S. Dick Cheney was one of the largest single stock holders in Rapidscan.
