The Junior FO on the Wide body:

747 - 3 years
787 - 3 years
777 - 2.5 years
Fair enough, it was in the jumpseat of the 737 and all that noise may have drown out his words. Haha. Actually our 777/787 FO slots are taken up by a majority of very senior pilots that are actually leaving the left seat of the NBs for it. I'm sure I just transposed our situation at AA onto yours. As with yours, ours will be steeply decreasing in the next few years. Thanks for the correction.

Is it generally safe to assume that you have a good chance of getting more than the guaranteed hours as a new hire? And will your per diem usually cover expenses as long as you don't make it rain in the food court, or can you count on pocketing a good chunk of it?

Im a DAL guy on 2nd year pay. So far the 1000 hours of pay a year wag seems to be holding true.

Far as per diem....I really dont pay enough attention but I am pretty sure most of the time I spend less. What will kill your budget is booze. For mental math I plan for 50 bucks in a 24 hour period; even with the airport 9 dollar sandwich I seem to be able to stay under that each day without much work. I have met a few folks with the stamina to pack food. I dont care enough, but when bored [and sick of airport food] enough I will play the game of "never eat airport food." Shopping on layovers.

Having said all that, our per diem is a joke. Even the US Govt pays more. Thankfully that works out to a nice tax break....but it still sucks.

Wow, that's what, 25-26% they put into your 401K at AA? That's awesome. My airline isn't even close to that.

I'm sure his number also represents his own contribution to the 401K

Why would someone consider a contribution of their own money to a 401K as income? I'm sure the airlines would love it if we considered our own contributions to be "income".

Maybe they could add up our mortgage payments and call it income, also.

Nope, pretty sure that is all AA money. . .had a guy in my crash pad with similar numbers and he said that he didn't put a dime of his own money into his 401k and AA put $21600 for the year. . .a nice little deal.

AA puts 16% into our 401k whether we put any in or we don't, not the first year though. I think DAL and UAL are pretty much the same.

If AA doesn't put anything into your 401K the first year, then QuagmireGiggity, who says that AA has put 26% of his income into his 401K in the first year (as he mentions what year two pay will be) is BSing on a couple of different levels.

And for anyone who thinks that the company is putting exactly 10% more into their 401K than other pilots on the property (unless it's a contractual rule), they need to look closer at their account. They have either accidentally opted in, or the company automatically opted them in. Believe me, I understand how confusing it can be. I worked for a major for 2 1/2 years, and didn't even realize I had a 401K account until they furloughed me. I have no idea how much of it was company contributions or my own. At that point, I was just happy to have a job.

I'm not a frequent enough poster here to say for sure, but I believe that QG was a flow through pilot and those pilots kept their company seniority date for vacation and 401k contributions. I don't know the specifics of his situation, but the company puts in 16% and not more than that for anyone. We got some stock a few years ago, perhaps that was included in the first year compensation estimate. That certainly wouldn't be the case for someone off the street.
