Only overlap on 10 routes. That overlap could easily be redeployed on new markets in the middle of the country where both are weak. Best fit in network, product, culture, age, and aircraft, and a relative SLI would be nearly painless for both groups.

I vote for blue shirts and ties, and the final nail in the coffin for the waiters costumes!

(Q: does "Shuttle by United" fall into the same boat or was that just a marketing gimmick?)
Well, were those were marketing schemes or seperate entities? Shuttle by United is a relief of scope by seat number and gross weight. The airline can market themselves as two seperate companies but the pilot labor groups would have to be integrated into a single list per scope clause; it keeps the company from splitting the pilot group and whipsawing them against one another for new contracts (if you flew at a regional this probably sounds very familiar).

Hmm, well this sounds way more likely than United or American buying them

I don't think many pilot were applying at spirit or virgin at this point in time. This new would shift any would be spirit hire to virgin I expect. Better possible upside of hired today even if it is pure speculation.

And yeah it is probably private equity and not another airline which just means business as usual except a Cba is now 10 years away instead of two. Equity groups don't like to pay employees and that goes for any industry.

Cramer has even said B6 is not investable.
Maybe Virgin will buy Blue?

Not so much.

Be very, very, very wary of anything published on the Seeking Alpha website.

The article makes basic sense, but in the pantheon of sources cited, I'd place them just above APC and below Vinnie, the hustler down on Las Olas.

A bit surprised no one has mentioned HAL yet. That would make a lot of sense, since it's a two class airline, Hawaiian is two class. Hawaiian has very little foray into the states, relying on code shares for feed. With LAX and SFO, both are served by wide body HAL aircraft, there is zero route overlap, and both airlines have high customer satisfaction scores. HAL is also essentially run by a hedge fund.

Actually there is overlap on a couple destinations in HI out of SFO....and VA is starting HI service out of LAX in about a month. Either way I doubt HAL is in the picture...but ya never know. I would bet either JetBlue or Delta if it is an airline.
