Let's see...$2.5B buys 20 brand new A321's or 26 new A320's. This is according to Airbus' website. We could probably get them cheaper after market. VX owned 6 planes.

If you guys have $2.5B laying around, Gary Kelly will be making an offer on you pretty soon.

$2.6 billion to pay for Virgin does not equate to taking that money out of one's piggy bank. It's called debt/credit, my naive friend. Oh btw, it's more like over $4 billion, not 2.5. Debt=bad idea for buyout/take over. These guys maybe greedy little evil bastages but they ain't 'tupid.

LMAO.
So since they made money for 1 year you think they are going to keep making it. It's pretty clear, oil drops to all time low, it was either sell the company now or wait until oil goes up 10 dollars and file BK.

If WN was making realistic offers to buy us why were we willing to bid up VX? It could happen but the odds just dropped a little bit.

So why do you think there was a bidding war? There was a reason and it wasn't because the company was going to be bankrupt in 5 years.

Bidding war? More like like JB saying sure we'll buy some more west cost flying for cheap, and AK going in a panic and over paying. If it was a good deal and a bidding war than every company with money would of bid. VA would of sold to DHL for 30 a share if it was the only bidder. Anything for the inversters to get out of an 8 year money pit.
I just wish I bought VA stock last week instead of wasting my time reading this forum. Someday I will grow up.

Why JB wanted it: quick easy way to grow into LAX/SFO with a similar product.
Why Alaska wanted it: to prevent JB from having it and coming into their hood.

No one really wanted the airline or product (to include Branson et al). JB wanted west coast access, and Alaska was willing to pay $2.6b to try to stop them. This has nothing to do with the health or future of Virgin and everything to do with growth and turf wars.

It's consolidation, buddy. It's eat or get eaten for midsized airlines.

And to quote South Park, I'm not your friend, buddy.

AK will still be midsized after this, but with a lot more debt, and a possible money losing subsidiary if gas prices go up.
