Yep, definitely a poorly done April Fools joke. I'm not sure how anyone could take the youtube video seriously; it looked like it was done by junior high schoolers who just discovered the pleasure of yanking on their junk.

You and some others are misreading the article. It doesn't mention fragmentation, which you're implying. I read it as selling a percentage of the stock to an outside party in a private transaction - for instance 25% of the float. The company would remain 'whole'.

I use the word float because there's a metric sh!tton of unexercised options in VX stock due to the restructurings (aka bankruptcy-like reorganizations) where the investors had a ton of capital converted to equity. If they're able to drive up the price enough, those investors will start exercising options and flooding the market with more VX stock. I think this is the ultimate goal of this buyout rumor, not actually selling the company.
