I've been trying to market a low-powered taser, just for "particular" children, but I just can't get the lawyers to sign off on it! Would have solved everything.

Very true. I have no kids yet and don't really plan to have any anytime soon ,but i like your approach.
If you beat a puppy you end up with a dog who is fearfull and is more prone to violence / acting out / misbehaving. I would never BEAT a dog or a child. Anyone who thinks about raising a hand on a child in a public place should be very very carefull.. this can lead to serious legal problems. There are smarter ways to discipline. just my opinon.

There is a very big difference between "beating" and "spanking".

While my children got spanked, they were never ever beaten (tempted, though!). But they didn't get spanked in public, either.

Instead of putting the onus on the airlines, simply make a rule that lap children are not allowed on board. Bring your carseat or stay home. There are laws that require children to be restrained in a carseat in an automobile.

Why are airplanes (or school busses for that matter!) exempt? Impact can kill a child, whether its from a car accident or unreported turbulence.

This was nearly a standing joke at recurrent training. ... But rules were rules.

I hope they have extended it to any car seat, as any car seat is better than holding the kid in your lap!

I also think the crew made the right decision on this trip. There is not much more annoying than a fussy child on a flight.
I think it has been allowed, with an approved seat, for much longer than 6 yrs. Anyone know for sure?
