I hear y'all loud and clear.
I whole heartedly agree with AirTrans decisions... can you even imagine what type of crap the gate agents had to go through after the family was taken off? I accept the guidelines of traveling non-rev and I keep my mouth shut... but at what point will this end? I had yogurt dumped all over me by a four year old commuting to work about four and a half months ago and after having spent some time thinking I cannot understand how parents can think that letting their children run amuck on the aircraft is safe, respectful, and in good taste for not only themselves but the other passengers on board. I say overhead bins are there for a reason... and if the situation calls for it... use them properly!

I am throwing my hat in for a plastic bag and a zip tie.
You're right the kid doesn't travel well so don't travel the kid. I bought my ticket as well and the brochure doesn't have some screaming brat with ***** foot parents running up and down the isle delaying the flight. Its not a matter of a car seat the kid would of just screamed and tantrumed in that as well. Thank god they never got off the ground. Air Tran will be the favorite for a lot of people now.
Ah hell, Plastic bags for the parents too.

However you raised your sons, you taught them a healthy fear which equals respect. You taught them to listen to you when you gave them "that look" or spoke in "that tone." It wasn't luck. It was being a good parent. Kudos to you.
It's just a shame that many parents today don't want to be a parent but a buddy or a friend to their kids.

I think a lot of people missed the point - many news outlets slanted it that way. There was never a question of removing the child and parents because of the child crying. It is against FAA rules for anyone - even a 3 year old - not to be seated AND seat belted during take off and landing. Its advised that you keep your seat belt on when in flight, but not rewuired by the FAA. They boarded the plane at least 15 minutes prior to take off and then spent another 15 minutes after actual departure time trying to get said child in a seat belt. That's more than enough time to wrangle the child into the seat and seat belt or admit defeat and remove yourselves from the plane.
And I agree, where was the child seat? We always carried one on the plane, then were able to use it when we deplaned in the car we were using while visiting.
I agree crying children on a flight are not fun, but rules are rules. You wanna ride, fasten the seat belt. Doesn't matter if they cry or not, strap 'em in.
I, too, saw the family on GMA the next morning and that child wouldn't sit still then. Looks might be deceiving, but from all that transpired on the plane and on the tv - looks like a simple case of a 3 year old definitely running the show.
If they file a lawsuit, can the judge throw it out as frivolous?

I would hope so but I am sure in this day and age, they would probably get a few million for their "emotional trauma". I was actually surprised that "lawyer" or "lawsuit" or "compensation" was not mentioned in the interview that I saw. Now, THAT was a shocker!

Paul, What do I have to do to be removed from the redneck bigoted bull**** here? I can't stand this ignorant, bigoted bull****. These posts are a complete injustice to those in aviation who are sensible, educated and intelligent. Is there anyone out there with a spine to stand up to these ignorant, uneducated idiots?...Or is this today's aviation community?
