Default Hired by regional a month before interview

Hello fellow pilots. Do you believe that getting hired with a quick-upgrading regional a month before my major airline interview would negatively affect my chances at being offered the job? I'm considering jumping on this opportunity with this regional (no training contract) now in case my interview with the major isn't favorable. I've been out of the airlines (but still in aviation) for a few years. Any chance they could see this as being serious about returning to the airlines (and getting current) rather than just as a back-up?

Thanks.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Or three. Or a dozen.

You have nothing concrete from the major except for an interview. Even if you pass, you might be swimming for a while until you get picked up. In the meantime, you've got mouths to feed and bills to pay.

You're not the first down this path, and certainly not the last. Take the job at the regional, knowing that it's always easiest to secure a new job while holding a current job.

Thanks for the reply.

I should add that I'm currently a full-time simulator instructor, but looking at changing to part-time while returning to the airlines.

Thanks.

Definitely take the regional job. Can't think of any way it would be seen as a negative.

A training failure would be viewed as negative. It happens.

If there's a good possibility that the OP would fail a regional training program, then he would probably fail a mainline one too. To not take a job because of the remote possibility of failing training is a good indication that one needs to exit aviation in a swift like manner.

Can you be sure you'll get the time off for your major interview?

Yep, and don't get a reckless driving ticket driving to the interview, either.

It happens.

Anyhoo...dealing in realistic probabilities, there's nothing about starting a regional job a month prior to an interview at a major that is going to raise any questions at the major interview. This type of thing happens all the time; I know of a couple military dudes who weren't getting calls for interviews at the majors who got hired at the regionals, and quickly upon updating their applications reflecting the 121 job, received calls for major interviews.

I was thinking the same thing. I would try to postpone the class. You need to be focused on interview prep and studying for whatever test might be required for the interview. Now is the time to devote your full attention to landing this major interview. You cannot do this if you are in training at a regional. Also, training at any level is going to be at least 6 weeks. So you would still be in the middle of training and trying get the necessary time off around the interview. Sounds highly unlikely to me unless you were very straight up with the regional company in the beginning.

I agree with this view 100%. Too much distractions to do a good job.
If you have no issue being current for the major, ask the regional to bypass the next class and try the interview with the major first.
