Delta has advised pilots operating in Dakar to not stop at all once departing the the gate until airborne. Guess there are lots of folks looking for a better way of life and they literally end up coming out of the weeds........

In 1991, some dude tried to ride a J-31 wing from Paducah (or maybe Owensboro) to Memphis. He hid by the runway and jumped on the wing at takeoff. Terrified pax saw him, but it was too late. At a few hundred feet, he fell off, bounced into the airport fence dead. They never identified this guy. They even put his dead pic in the Memphis newspaper. Years later, the story was on Unsolved Mysteries. I don't think anyone ever claimed his dead, dumb arse.

I have flown with the captain from that flight. He told me that he is the only J31 (Jetstream) pilot to have a "confirmed kill". Nice, huh? He said that the guy had escaped from a nearby mental facility, was wearing goggles and a leather-type helmet. He also said the guy jumped on the horiz. stab. And, they didn't know about him falling off, until reaching MEM.
