My last 777 trip was three years ago. I was flying for an Indian airline and much of my work was Frankfurt to Chicago. The company I was working for at the time ran two pilot crews up to 10 hours. In the winter, the flying time west bound could get pretty close to 10 hours with winter winds. I can say with a clear conscience I witnessed a fair amount of sleeping on those long west bound legs. In fact I witnessed all the sleeping because I never once took even a five minute nap. I guess you could chalk it up to a strong sense of self preservation because when an old FO was 25 years old and an experienced FO had more than 500 hours, you don't dare close your eyes. Oh by the way, just to put this into perspective I'm too old to fly 121 anymore.

Adding up the numbers on APC from the Regional and Major section, "active" regional pilots is around 21,100. How many are on leave of some sort or lifers, I don't know. That doesn't include the swarms of military guys leaving that the majors have a hard on for, or all the business aviation guys coming over, or all the 135/91 operators out there, etc.

That was the first thing I thought of when the Falcon 7X was introduced with no tiller.
